Introduction

In the United States, a fraternity is a professional, social or honorary society for males. In most cases, such organizations have their memberships mostly drawn from the university or college students. For a social fraternity, it is usually a social group composed of men and whose primary function is for social purposes mostly secret rites and initiations. The role of a fraternity is to serve as a dormitory and college home for the members, but their emphasis is different from one college to another. There are universities where fraternities are the center of social life and politics whereas there are others where such organizations are never tolerated. It is essential to give back to your community through offering services. Fraternities are one of such societies that offer endless benefits such as lifelong relationships as well as unique leadership opportunities to its members, and as a way of appreciation, we should also be able to make contributions. For me, as a fraternity member, the following are some of the contributions that I would bring to the social fraternity in my institution.

Firstly, I would act as a mentor to the Chapter for coordinator roles. The reason as to why I feel this role could fit for me is because I have a more limited schedule and also in the capacity to committing regular meeting with those I mentor. It is through mentoring that the larger group becomes successful through the weekly or bi-weekly meetings with the individual student instead of the weekly board and executive meetings. Through mentorship, I firmly believe that the student leaders would immensely benefit from such guidance, encouragement, and support leading to an increment in their confidence to become more successful in their roles. I believe this is a role that would best fit me since I am a dependable individual who does not like exposure but like developing leadership as well as building with students meaningful relationships making this role an ideal fit.

Secondly, I would also make significant contributions by acting as a presenter or facilitator to the fraternity. In most cases, fraternities have components of education to their member experience, whether education to their new members or all members ongoing development. It is usually not in the knowledge of the leaders to find engaging presenters, and therefore this is a role that I would take on voluntary grounds and use it to bring improvement to my fraternity. By becoming a presenter, I would become a familiar face to the members enabling me an easy way to make contributions to the community occasionally in a year. I would also reach out to the fraternity students that I already know and inform them about my willingness to present. Still, another approach that I would use is to involve myself in the fraternity's "Lunch and Lead" series to give me an exposure to many fraternity leaders who could have interest in having me in their group. There is also no consistency in the time commitment of a presenter especially in cases where the programs already exist. Since I enjoy teaching and mentoring and looking for platforms to share my materials more, this would be the perfect place for me to shine.

Thirdly, I would make myself available to the fraternity students, asking them how I could help while at the same time ensuring that there is a strong relationship since relationships are key. I would create time to get to know the fraternity students in my world and sooner or later, the students could think of me as a potential champion who could be of significant help to them. As a leader, there are also benefits that would be in waiting for me. The first benefit is that I get to work with the students. It would relate to more meetings, more commitments, more emails, and suddenly I would be in my office all day trying to figure out what all this is for in the first place. However, this would bring fun, meaning, and variety back to my work. The second benefit is that volunteering is good for my health by lowering my level of stress and also enriching my sense of purpose of life.

Conclusion

The social aspect of students' lives is a significant factor, and it is through the fraternities that they get catered. It, therefore, becomes essential for us to make contributions to these fraternities to make them even stronger to impact more on the lives of the members. It is for that reason that I feel making the above-explained contributions to my fraternity would be appropriate in ensuring its significant growth. Acting as a mentor to the members of the fraternity would lead to the whole community becoming successful since it brings guidance, encouragement, and support both to the leaders and the members of the fraternity. It is also significant to make myself available to the students within the fraternity and to develop a strong relationship with them. Such contributions are essential in ensuring that the fraternity members feel at home within the community and that their social life is catered for, and therefore, I believe that through making such contributions, my fraternity would achieve more of their dreams and objectives.
