Introduction
Self-assessment is a significant psychological concept involving the study of oneself for a specific identity. It serves as one of the considerable motives driving self-evaluation, self-verification as well as self-enhancement. Even as much as self-assessment is based on the evaluation of some aspects of a given individual, it is best accomplished with reference to a role model. According to Bernstein (2015), a role model is an individual who is already in a position for which one aspires. Self-assessment is therefore undertaken by comparing one's qualities against those exhibited by the given leader who is the role model. This paper presents a self-assessment investigation in which I refer to myself relative to the leadership qualities of Amazon's Jeff Bezos.
I. Self-Assessment
As a leader, I am able to patiently take time to research on an issue before investing in it which has enabled me to be a successful leader. This has helped me to resort to opinions respected by my employees. Besides, I have a tendency of planning on what I should accomplish for a definite period and at the end of the work involved, I reflect on the achievement and compare against the targets. I also respect the others opinions and on which note, I normally believe in communication through which I share experiences. I have been achieving this practicing team building through which I gather employees and family members to which I give effective directions as a leader. However, I need to develop on my timely accomplishment of tasks; for instance, the tendency of procrastination could be effective in a negative way. Sit take a considerable amount of time researching for information on a given issue.
My leadership characteristics are related to those of Bezos with limited differences. We share a quality of team building; like myself, Bezos is a great team builder who is able to manage a team of employees from whom he generates ideas (Kandemirli, 2018). Moreover, patience is another leadership characteristic that is common between us; Bezos never rushes to decision-making exercise but rather inquires to gain more insight in any given situation. Moreover, we share the quality of learning and giving input. Rossman (2017) argued that Bezos believes that learning is a continuous experience and he normally incorporates his findings in the company. However, the major difference falls in how we manage our plans. For example, unlike me, Bezos is patient but technically impatient to catch up with project timelines.
II. Leadership and Management
Bezos' functions and the management roles on his growth and professional career track reveals many significant decisions he makes for the continuity of the operations of Amazon. According to Mumford, Todd, Higgs and McIntosh (2017), Bezos organizes employee meeting and makes decisions for adjusting and meeting the dynamic needs of the leadership natures. Bezos focuses on incorporating the management and leadership roles as a way of working towards futures plans. Bezos has long believed in the significance of advanced technological aspects. He developed the Artificial Intelligence technology to facilitate the success of the company.
Bezo's leadership skills have the potential of promoting operations, communications and the organization structure. The leader was able to think of the products the company would offer at their best and finally narrowed down to compact computer hardware, discs, books computer software and videos. The company has many employees of different categories based on their roles and hierarchy of positions (Mumford et al., 2017). The leader has established effective communication mechanisms between the employees and between the company and the customers. This helps in sharing experiences in which feedback is involved in the purpose of ensuring improved and efficient service delivery.
The management roles of Bezos improve the organizational structure, operations, and communications through the achievement of 1 trillion within a short period. According to Majed, Nuraddin and Hama (2018), Jeff Bezos has focused on meeting the requirements of accomplishing tasks than relying on his personal skills and attitude. This has been important for the positive progress Amazon has made and this reveals that being a task related leader can e a strategic approach towards being successful.
