Introduction
A race is an intrinsic and fundamental factor that helps Americans in seeing and explaining the world's functioning through recent and past thoughts and experiences. Globally, the race has been utilized as a factor of classifying social identity thus having a high impact on how people socially interact or influenced by others. Radical worldview is the view of the world in a perspective that categorizes humans under different groups; assumes external physical qualities reflect inferior internal realities; judge groups as worse or better based on Northern European groups similarity; and believe the qualities are passed down from one generation to the other. Personally, radical worldview has a great indirect impact through my biracial niece who has had many struggles throughout her life, and it pains and angers me due to multiracial experiences she passes through and growing up with a confusion of which race she belongs to.
Based on the video, most of the stories shared relative to multiracial people is mainly about growing up stuck up in between races and doing anything and everything to fit in one of the races. These stereotypes exist when you have lighter skin or fine hair, and you are black. A mixture of two cultures is not an issue, the issue arises externally, from the people thus making the biracial people in general especially in their childhood and teenage years to undergo many struggles to fit in and be accepted (SOATV, 2017). The life of my niece is a perfect and practical example of the struggles experienced by biracial people- I am an older Italian man considered as white by the majority. I have a niece who is bi-racial and has had many struggles as some of her own family on both sides do not accept her. It has led her to turn to drugs as a form of escape. Currently, she is in rehab while my wife and I are caring for her newborn daughter for the last couple of months. There has been more than one occasion where people want to look at the baby when we are out in public and their facial expression change when they see that the baby is bi-racial. This not only angers me but makes me concerned about whether or not my great niece will have to endure the prejudices that her mother has gone through. The effects of mixing cultures are having an impact on our children's lives.
The sociological perspectives that sociologist employ in theories includes; the functionalist perspective, symbolic interactionist perspective, and conflict perspective. Symbolic interactionist is based more on the symbols while conflict perspective lies in the competition part in the society (CliffsNotes, 2016). According to structural functionalist ethnicity and race are cohesive factors for the society. It emphasizes on equilibrium and social unity. Basing on the statement; A racial worldview obscure the fact that the perceived differences are products of historical and contemporary social, economic, educational and political circumstances rather than biological factors. Its emphasis on harmony and equilibrium that allows more contentious power imbalances. Functionalism perspective has less adaptation on individual discrimination understanding as it ignores the inequality factor that impacts to conflict and tension. When analyzing the statement based on symbol interactionist perspective, we draw conclusions about people according to the meaning interpreted from them that originates from the product of social interaction.
From the current racial worldview, I think the multiracial or biracial community benefits more than both the blacks or whites as they can gain access to all social situations and cannot be stereotyped about a particular group of people as long as they embrace their community. This is because great power lies in accepting themselves and changing the world into a better place by being a force for good. Based on the video, the black community is the dominant gene, and other races quite frankly do not notice the difference and suffer through the indignation. It is the responsibility of all races to see that we all hurt and bleed the same and the difference is just in looks so why make a bi-racial person unhappy? We are both beautiful insides out despite the skin color or hair texture thus for the American worldview to change, be beautiful ladies and gentlemen to all.
