Introduction
When you see a Pitbull breed, what is the immediate reception and response that goes through your mind? In some, the reaction is associated with massive fear while for others it is a complicated misunderstanding about the unique breed. Has ever one thought of the essential characteristics of pit bulls or how they are being reared, or are they just misquoted based on the reputations that they have received from others in terms of myths and misconceptions which are attached to them? How do people perceive the owners of the pit bulls and the attitude which people have towards them based on irrational thoughts they bestow? The speculation about the precious animal is too much and makes it look wearied as a living species. These species of dog should not be banned from society, because of unaccomplished and stupid stereotypes which people have towards them.
First, pit bulls do not cause an inherent attack as compared to any other breed. Their attacks may often be, but this happens because of the nature of the training they are exposed to. Most people prefer them because of their strength and violent attacks when triggered; their training has and promotes those characteristics. However, this outstanding and unique quality is not much inherent as many people have developed myths about it (Orritt et al. 18). If Pit bulls are banned, dog owners will shift their focus and train other species that could fight as their replacement. As a result, prohibit Pit bulls will stunt the progress. It is evident that most pit bull dogs are not very dangerous; most of them have a connotation and explicit characterization of being dangerous making people prefer training them to be that way. Experts also agree that if pit bulls are adequately trained, they are as safe as any other breed of dogs.
Secondly, just because most pit bulls attack more as compared to any other breed of dogs doesn't qualify that they are dangerous or attack more often. For instance, let's say that in winning the lottery the chances are one in one thousand, and someone buys ten tickets. The person is ten times more likely to win as compared to the other person who just bought only one ticket, but is passionate about winning the same lottery. This is similar to what is evident in Pit bulls. The determination of their nature of biting depends on their relationship with the person at hand, although the attack is more prevalent as compared to other species of dogs (Duffy 231). This above-illustrated point reveals that the level and prevalence in an attack by Pit bulls is more pronounced as compared to other breed dogs is misinterpreted because their counterparts also have equal possibilities and likelihood to attack.
Additionally, Pit bulls are usually characterized as harmful and dangerous dogs which are capable of causing severe injuries to people due to their behaviors as well as physical characteristics. They are seen as extremely dangerous and aggressive dogs. However, according to critics, Pit bulls descended from the English dogs which are associated with bull-baiting which were commonly bred to fight beasts as well as other large animals as a source of entertainment as well as the creation of fun among people (Foster 134). Similarly, there other more aggressive breeds of dog than the pit bulls such as the Doberman or the German shepherd but their hatred is not as the one seen in pit bulls. The argument about the pit bull ban is associated with the number of bites which are recorded about them (Franklin, Deirdre, and Linda 23). However, certain essential information about what generates the taste is not discussed.
Moreover, pit bulls are not only vacuous and outlawing in nature but could also prove to be detrimental to society. Apart from being lovable pets for different families, these breed of dogs is more useful to society that can be realized by most people. For instance, they are well versed in various types of jobs that are more beneficial to people than they supposedly harm. They can search for dementia patients and lost children, work in different nursing homes, act as seizure and diabetic alert dogs, as well as help most children with reading impairment by listening to them, understand in an occasion where they are extremely embarrassed to read to the adults (Weaver 354). Importantly, Pit bulls bring us closer to the solution to our problems and agonies as opposed to the misconceptions which are attached to them.
Conclusion
Ultimately pit bull dogs are stigmatized and misunderstood because of a few wicked people who don't give them proper treatment. Apart from the apparent provision of a loving living home for them, the breed of dog requires proper socialization to reduce the myth and belief which are attached to them and make them coherent as one of the essential animal in the society. I hope that next time when you come across a pit bull, you will have rational thinking about and typecast the myths that society has made against them as dangerous monsters.
