Introduction
The concert orchestra event took place at the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra. It was performed at the MacMillan Theatre. The name of the concert was Live Concert Review Kwesi Kwarko-Fosu Introduction. The general seating arrangement was well-designed and comfortable. It had a seating capacity of approximately 800, and over 600 people both students and the general public attended. The theatre had 2 tiers sloping in rows. Dante Anzolini was the director of the presenting group, called the MIT Symphony Orchestra. The instruments included violins, oboe, bassoons, flutes, tubas, harps, cellos, celesta among others.
The audience was not disappointed with the performance of the orchestra, Rachel Levinson (violin) and the soloist Pamela Wood (soprano). Leos Janacek's piece that opened the concert with the musical presentation that balanced well with the part. Although the technique was perfect, it sounded tense and dry, almost similar to a warm-up piece. It had little emotion but in general, melded with dissonant chords.
The second performance was done by Ravel's Tzigane designed for piano and violin. The general performance was brilliantly handled with the soloist giving a very expressive performance that showed an outstanding virtuosity and advanced technique. The baseline gave resounding support to the violin and was much enjoyed by the entire audience. The heaviest part that lasted for over an hour was the 4th Symphony due to its enormous proportions. The presentation, despite sounding uninteresting was lovely with a clear and energetic performance from the artists.
The movements were slow and in harmony with the folk tune. The part was beautiful and sentimental. The central theme started with the bases and gradually increased in tempo creating a magical and serene atmosphere. The other parts created a tensed moment that soon disappeared as the original theme was brought back. The third moments were slightly slow but exhibited the general brilliance of the soprano part. The last performance was about the "Wunderhorn" a type of excitement towards heavenly experiences. The serene atmosphere created coupled with the brilliance of the uncomplicated dynamics and tempo brought forth an excellent presentation filled with color, passion, and excitement from the audience. The soprano gave the lyrics a substantial weight, and as the unexpected surge of E major, the random keys shifted culminating into a lovely excellent performance.
Conclusion
Overall, the presentation under the direction of Dante Anzolini was outstanding, impressive and enjoyable. The most entertaining part was the slow and well-calculated symphony movements. Not only was the audience moved by the changes, but they were also captivated by the well-displayed professionalism of the combination of the Majors in the entire presentation. At the same time, the last movements that were marked by sudden changes in the dynamics and tempo brought forth the magical aspect of Dante Anzolini's work. The artists were all in joint unison, combining the various techniques and movements with the sounds. It was impressive. As professional performances, Anzolini's group never disappointed, they performed excellently, and the audience was greatly impressed. At a personal level, the performance marked a turning point to my love for orchestra. I will never miss any of the groups' performances. Never had I felt so much connected with a performance like this did. I felt I was part of the performing team, a feeling that inspired my aspiration to perfect my hands at the violin, my favorite musical instrument!
