Introduction
Throughout my life, I have come to learn firsthand how accurate Jean de la Fontaine's quote is, "that a person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it" (Fontaine). For now, I know that what I was destined to be could not be suppressed by what the society, closer family members or even myself want me to become. When growing up, I always dreamt of touching the world and leaving my marks on the annals of history by doing great things and positively affecting people's lives, but I did not know how to accomplish this. However, I was sure that acting, venturing into professional music or participating in charitable work was not my fate because I am not good at those things. But somehow, I have always felt that fire in my heart, the drive and the desire of unleashing my full potential. I do believe that everyone has that greatness in them and anyone could achieve anything if only they set their mind to it. However, the trick lies in finding your talent, which gives you the passion for accomplishing the things you love for that is where the magic lies.
It took me a long time to touch brace with this reality and know what I am truly passionate about in my life. My dream of becoming a 2D designer came after making one or two misinformed choices about my career and what made me happy. After high school, I enrolled to college where I studied clinical science, biology which later turned into biotechnology followed by chemistry then art history and printmaking. Somehow I felt that despite education being that golden key that opens most doors in life, the areas that I had chosen as my field of study did not give me the satisfaction that I desired. I decided to take a break from the college studies till I figured out what was my passion. That career which would cause ripples of joy in my heart whenever am studying and practicing it without ever getting tired.
After dropping out of college, I got into the retail business through the advice of a friend for I needed cash to pay the bills. She assured the venture was lucrative and I would make a lot of money. I came to learn that statement was collect for when you are selling to clients and getting commission at the luxury retail shop; the money comes in big and fast. In my eight years of working, I managed to work my way through designer labels from dark, romantic, skull happy English brand to sophisticated, modern, less elegant French label. To most people, this was an ideal world, and I was living a dream kind of life, but to me, I knew I wanted something different. This is not to say what I was doing was not exciting, for I would never trade my time in retail business for anything in the world, but it means that I felt I was yet to unleash my desires, talent, and dreams. This yearning of doing something that I wanted and embracing a career that I would be passionate about, made me go back to an area that I enjoyed most when I was in college, 2D design. Out of every Photoshop or Illustrator or graphic design course, the one thing I enjoyed the most was when we had the chance to create our designs for 2D projects.
I believe that FITis the best school to acquire the skills that I need in this field and make my dreams come true. Based on the collage's goals which are to impact students with the right skills, ethics, and wisdom to survive in a competitive world, I would be fortunate to study at this college for it is in perfect alignment with my goals. I am optimistic that the school will prepare me for the post-college life in the real world. I also have realized through my research that the institution is well equipped both in term of materials and professionals needed to train a 2D designer student successfully.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I have learned that the greatest pride in life is chasing your dreams like it is the last bus of the night. My goal is to be a 2D designer, and I hope to touch the world through my creativity and technical skills in that discipline. FIT is my college of choice for I firmly believe that it is the best place to acquire the skills that I need and I hope the college will accept my transfer application. For just like a calf finds its mother in the herd of thousands of cows, I have discovered my real passion is to be a 2D designer, and the place to make my dream come true is the FIT college.
