Introduction
It is believed that love poetry started around 3500 BD where the oldest poetry was written on a clay tablet. Archaeologists said referred love poems as 'Istanbul #2461' which was a non-romantic name. The word Istanbul was derived from the Greek language whose meaning is "in the city." "Sargon of Akkad's" daughter is believed to be the first author in the world to be called by name. She was Enheduanna and she was a Sumerian. The oldest English poem is known as Beowulf. It consists of 700 to 750 words and thus it is believed to be the oldest English poem.
Romantic poets have shown interest in imagination, revolution, and nature's power. They were characterized by; subjectivity, sublime, supernaturalism, nature poetry, common language and subjects, simple life celebrations, interest in history and folk traditions, personal freedom, poet feelings and emotions, personification, idealized women, French revolution, sensuality, heroism, rebellion, ancient fossils, rebellion, myths and symbolism . Supernatural elements were used by poets to please the reader and also horror creation. Greatness quality in literature is the excitement of emotions and thoughts and language usage. Love poets outlined the achievements of individual Heroes who were misunderstood by society. They believed that knowledge was gained through the power of understanding something clearly.
Romantic poems mostly consist of feelings and emotions so poets have rebelled against neoclassicism in romantic poetry. Imagination is a key role in romantic poems. In understanding art, the symbolism was important in romantics'. Love poets used art for world illumination. They also preferred experimentation and boldness to promote the artist's idea. Symbols could be used for comparison and they could also suggest a lot of things. They expressed language through the infinite resources available. Robert Frost was a famous poet who believed in supernatural elements and imaginations. One of his romantic poetry talks of supernatural things where he used women and children as opinions.
Poets like Keats wrote, "I am certain of nothing but of the holiness of the Heart's affections and the truth of Imagination- What the imagination seizes as beauty must be the truth." (Ryan. 1973.). He believed that you can hear the sound of cricket when it is chirping during the night in one of his poems. He loved nature because it has awesome beauty and it is also attractive to look and listen to. Keats also said that he would love to fly away with the bird that is called Nightingale which sings sweet melodies at night.
Keats imagination was in two forms; first, he liked to imagine his poetry was better than to see it in real life. In the second form, Keats from his misery experiences and pain he wanted the life of a human to be better like he was imagining. Keats was inspired by the Greek art that brought beauty and imagination to his mind. He believed that it is through beauty that man be destined to God because it is the most appropriate form to approach someone. Blake who was a poet believed that you could know the world through imagination. He said that you could see the divine vision which helps a person to determine the character of something. Blake referred poets as prophets who had the power to see things in reality through imagination.
Wordsworth believed that imagination is connected to morality and it has spiritual powers. He believed that the origin of the poem came from the power of emotions through intuition which helped him to see the reality. In composing poetry; the poet would prove his emotion through an object and the emotion would remain in his memory and when he is in a calm state, he could recall the emotion and write them down. In this way, the same emotion was felt by the reader.
He also believed that his nature was a teacher, a god, and a living creature. In one of his writings, he said that man was inseparable from nature. He also explained that man was active in and participated in the world. This greatly inspired him to write romantic poems. Poets use loved nature and used it as an inspirational source. The relationship of this poetry includes places and nature. When feeling sad without any course is important in factor in writing romantic poems since it is an inspirational source. Nature gives poets a sense of happiness and satisfaction to write a poem.
Another poet known as Coleridge said that there were two types of imagination; primary and secondary imagination. The primary imagination was the connection between individual power and the human ability to imagine things. With secondary imagination, you can diffuse and dissolve ideas to create images. Poets were able to understand the world around them and change it to a new world through imagination. Shelley defended poetry and expressed it as imagination and the revolution of creativity. He wanted to start a world where there was beauty, freedom, and love so that they would conquer their enemies like destruction and isolation.
Some of the romantic poets include; Keats, Coleridge, Byron, Brake and William Wordsworth. William said that by finding a lovely spot will give a poet a sense of belonging to write about poetry. William was inspired by nature where he says he wandered as a lonely cloud and how the wind in the lake lifted his joy and motivation to write poems.
When writing love poetry, the author expresses himself or herself and reveals the feelings he or she has to the person he writing to. He writes how he feels in his heart and expresses his emotions to the readers. The author writes about runs in his mind when he sees the person he loves and how they make him feel. Whatever feelings the poet has to the people he loves, he has to write that. Even if they make you speechless you have to write about that. The author tells the readers about the first time they met with this person. If they liked each other for the very first time or did they wait until they knew each other better. When writing about how you met, describe how the person made you feel, if you went on a date or if you kissed for the very first time.
When writing a poem about someone you love, write about the changes in your life. State how your life changed after you met this person and give differences before you met and after you met. Give the impacts they made on your life; if they made your life more charming and if they made you a better person than you were before. When writing about love poems write about what is in your heart. Do not exaggerate on your personality; it is recommendable to be yourself. When writing love poems it is not necessarily for you to follow the pattern of the poem. In case you are able to rhyme naturally, just do it. Mostly readers and do not care what the poem is about. They are concerned about how the poet wrote the poem.
Love poems can be about, teen love, breakups, romantic love, funny love, sad love, erotic and also friendship. When writing about love poems, you can compare traditional love poetry and modern ones.
