Another device is the use of imagery. Imagery involves the use of metaphorical language to represent thoughts, objects, and events in such a way that it pleases our human senses. Imagery uses exacting words that build a visual demonstration of thoughts in our brain. Imagery is associated with creating mental pictures to the reader. Conversely, this initiative is but to a degree right. Imagery, to be practical, turns out to be more compound than just an image. Imagery requires the assistance of records of words like onomatopoeia, personification, smile, and metaphors in order to pleas to the human senses.

The imagery in literature is used to create graphics and vibrant presentation of a scene that pleases reader's senses as possible. It assists the reader's thoughts to foresee the scenes and characters in the fictitious bit unmistakably. Additionally, imagery makes use of figures of speech like onomatopoeia, metaphor, personification, and simile all that serve the function of beautifying a piece of literature.

Another device is the use of metaphors. Metaphors make use hidden, implicit or implied comparison between two things that are not related but share some common characteristics. These involve portraying a thing, place, person, or an action as being something else. Furthermore, they bring comparison different from a simile as they don't make use of the words as or like to create a comparison.

Use of metaphors appropriately, appeals to the bodily senses of the reader, enhancing their imaginations to easily conclude what is being a portrait in a narrative. They provide the reader with a way of thinking hence offering them with a fresh of viewing the world and examining ideas. They also improve the quality of our conversation, and to the actors of the narrative.

An example of the use of metaphor is in the movie American Beauty. In this movie, the color red is used to describe passion. More exclusively it is used to describe sexual passion. In the opening of the movie, Benning is clipping red roses and this can be used as a metaphor to symbolize the destroying of the sexual passion of Spacey Kevin, her husband.

The Power of Literary Devices: Symbolism, Parallelism, and Characterization in Storytelling

When a story is told using a metaphor, simile, and other literary devices it reaches the audience on a different level altogether; the unconscious level. A writer can bypass the conscious level and live within the abstract, creative thoughts. When a story is told with metaphor and symbolism, the suspension of disbelief becomes the most amazing.

Literary devices generally capture the audience attention and take them to a fantasy world. With abstract concepts, the storyteller is able to grasp the attention of the audience and writes at a higher level. The reader gets more into the story and gathers more details. They set the expectation to the reader. Furthermore, they carry well-established connotations and implications that a writer can use to get to a point across with a certain degree of reliability.

Literary devices make the work of story-telling powerful. They are necessary and powerful devices of storytelling. Any good writer approaches their work without seriously contemplating its voice, the point of view and tone as well as how these elements revolve around the audience. Every device used by the author is core to the reader as they are methods of actively speaking with the author. Cultivation of the different literary devices is a strategic decision. They speak to the audience from the very first notion to become aspects of portraying what's on the writer's mind.

These devices add depth to the settings, characters, and events. They are developed within the story. Stories are made powerful by the use of mirror and foil characters. These characters share no traits or values. One character maybe boring and lazy, and a related character is a go-getter and energetic. They are mirror characters. When they are put together they highlighted each other's weaknesses and strengths. Examples of mirror character are the villains and the heroes. Foil characters are used for similar purposes to achieve separate goals. They embark on parallel plots.

Harnessing the Potential of Literary Devices: Depth, Meaning, and Engagement in Narrative Writing

Furthermore, the devices contain hidden meanings, for example, the use of symbolism. The reader gets to see a picture of his pride, life sustenance, and their country as they read the story. These devices portrait many different meanings of bravery, savior, help, sacrifice, freedom, repentance and treachery. With the use of symbolism, storytelling is made powerful since it crops up at specific points to remind the chief characters what they are fighting for and moreover what they believe in.

Additionally, storytelling is made powerful through parallelism of events. The parallelism of Events involves the use of forms and words to give rhythm and pattern to a passage in literature. It is usually used between settings, dialogue, events, and character without any limit. It easily brings foreshadowing if the author wants to display an event early. Readers are able to make connections and analyze events to other parts of the narrative. Parallelism brings flexibility to the narrative's plot, and the author can weave multiple events together.

Use of static and dynamic characters boosts storytelling. A variety of characters in a narrative adds flavor and depth to the narrative, but there is no need to jump into the lives of each character in the narrative, showing every fault they possibly have and having to explain their background (Characterization, 2015). Just like in real life where we do not have to know every detail about the people we meet, narratives are similar. Some characters are static in that they do not grow in the story. They serve basic roles and are strangers in the cast. Dynamic characters are the main characters of the story. They grow within the narrative and are at the forefront of the story. An example is the heroes who undergo tragedies and villains who grow to have remorse. They serve the major roles in the events of the narrative and form friendships. Readers relate to these characters as they are well developed on emotional levels.

Conclusion

In conclusion, literary devices are a great tool for any writer and help them illustrate their points and stories in a way that invites reflection and engagement. They add sweetness to the narrative and can be overused. They are self-evident in any narrative so the readers easily identify them. For writes to establish their full potential, they have to convince themselves of the power of literary devices in order to capture the reader's attention and take them to the places they want. They have to write a very good story since not every reader will go to the imaginary world. They should have confidence in what they write and the mindset to never give up.
