Introduction
This article talks on the use of the internet as a source of data for scientific research. It also mentions the use of libraries in such research activities. It is worth noting that research is a very important part of our daily life. All inventions and innovations we see around us are because someone did some research.
Libraries and Internet as Research Tools
Computer science research is the research aimed at finding solutions to various computer science problems. Computer science research can be conducted both in the library and also on the internet. A library contains thousands of different publications that tackle different elements in computer science. A compilation of different of these publications will offer some of the best problem-solving mechanisms in problem-solving. It is, however, difficult to research such a matter in the library especially when the time is a limiting factor. This is because the books and publications might be very voluminous (Illingworth &N, 2001). Also, a single book may not have all the required information, and hence one will have to part with many books in the research. This and other factors make use of the library a slow way of problem-solving. Because of this, most researchers opt for internet for their daily research activities. This has made the internet an essential tool for getting any kind of data. The Internet contains the highest quantity of scientific data.
Using the Internet for Research and Problem Solving
As discussed above, the internet is an essential tool for computer science research. From the internet, we can get all the information we want. The Internet is a creation of computer technology. The Internet has been developed to have search engines that make it easier to do research. These search engines have made it easier to make refined solutions from general search inquiries in seconds. This makes the internet a quick and efficient tool for any research. Its effectiveness in research also translates to faster problem solving since all research are meant to solve some problem.
Advantages of Using the Internet for Computer Science Research and Problem Solving
The Internet is very rich in information. This is because it has information from virtually every source and hence is treated as a gigantic encyclopedia. Another advantage of the internet as a tool of research is that it is very cheap. Internet research can be done from anywhere as long as you have an internet enabled device. With the internet, you don't have to buy loads of books nor travel places. The Internet offers all necessary information and sometimes even simulation. Hence there is no need of going to the workshops. The Internet also offers an interactive platform whereby one can seek information from sources far beyond physical reach and still get real-time feedback (Fricker, 2002).
Disadvantages of Using the Internet for Research
The Internet can provide you with a lot of information, causing a backlog of information. This extensive data can confuse the researcher. Secondly, there are no standards set to check on the accuracy of information found on the internet. This creates the possibility of taking wrong data and using it for your research. Some of the computer science projects that may require internet research include engineering projects. This is because these projects work on very large volumes of data and require a lot of precision when handling. With this computer era, all research activities involve the use of the internet at one point or another.
