An individual's identity involves how other people define an individual, and it entails what makes a given person unique and become distinguished from others. An individual may be having more than one identify because they may be having varying experiences through several events that occur in their lives. There are multiple changes which may take place in the life of an individual. Some of the changes that occur in one's life are little and have less impact on one's life. However, there are several events that could be more crucial and may change the whole life of an individual, making a huge impact on the identity of a person.
One of the life lessons that I have experienced, which contribute to my identity is coming to the United States to continue with my studies. When I arrived in the United States, I noted that there were a lot of transformations that would take place in my life both mentally and physically. After I stayed for about two months in the United States, I firmly believed that it was worth moving to America. This change is the one that offers me a chance so that I may lead a healthy lifestyle and new way of viewing things which are relevant for me. The event of moving to the United States allowed me to think internationally and differently.
Given that it is my first time to live in America, I have an opportunity from which I can experience the new culture. From the fact that I live in a multicultural community, by living in Los Angeles has helped me in expanding my horizon n many things such as eating habits and lifestyle. Through understanding different cultures, I have been able to become more considerate and knowledgeable regarding different habits and behaviors from various races. As a result, I have changed into becoming an individual who has a new way of viewing unique issues occurring around me. Therefore, the event of moving to America has significantly impacted my identity by providing me with a chance of having a healthy lifestyle and having a new way of thinking. This change is very beneficial and essential to me, as I can understand different cultures.
The second event that has impacted my identity that I have today is when my father and I were not getting along very well. I had developed the mentality that my father never cared about me. In many times, I was getting frustrated with him, given that he always got mad at me because of my grades as well as my behavior at the school. This made me feel that there was no given way that I could use to please my father. This made me lose all the hope left, and I was sure that I would end up being a failure in the rest of my life. One day our frustration and anger had developed, and it erupted many fights. My father grasped me and whispered that I was wrong for thinking that he does not love me. He continued by saying that one day, I will understand that he loved me when I will be having my children. AI realized that all that my father wanted was what was best for me, and he was only attempting to discipline me so that I could take care of my family one day.
