This film tales an illusorily simple tale with a lot of heart and care. Ilo Ilo is coarsely established in the central of the financial crisis of Asia which even influenced this small island state. It expresses a relationship that developed between a young and disobedient boy "Jiale" whose grandfather has just passed away and his nanny who has been hired from the Philippines to assist his pregnant mother with her frantic programs. The father of the boy loses his job while his mother manipulates the irritabilities of the terror and the rising demands of her employment which she requires to maintain at all expenses.

At the very beginning, the relationship between the family and Teresa are defined as anxious, upon her entrance, the family's mother, directly inquires to keep Teresa's passport to make sure that she does not run away. The film therefore skillfully takes strong bonds between Jiale and Teresa to disclose the flaw that develops in the family that now tends to have two mothers, Teresa, and Hwee Leng. The jealousy of Hwee Leng of Jiale's attachment for Teresa drives a section into the employee-employer affiliation and resulting to Leng's rising distrust of the nanny, a part where class and race is evident in the movie. The clumsiness of the position of Teresa is established in a considerable family meeting scene that makes her eat outside of the dining hall by herself due to the shortage of seats. Teresa was never regarded as a veritable family member while she lives in close three dimension nearness with her employer's family, a truth that is regretfully given a talk by the father of the family "Teck" and put forward by Hwee Leng.

This film expresses the role of a maid, and a household employee is very crucial. The fact that the employee and the employer walk in balancing you are a paid worker as well you are one of the family members can be so clingy and the casualties to understated that many people do not observe the grievances. The care work in this movie is defined when the parents of Jiale agree to hire Teresa to assist with domestic duties as well as to take care of Jiale. Teresa also does all the household chores and also acts as a hairdresser.

Conclusion

In this film, it is clearly defined that relations between the domestic workers and the families are not determined by class and race. This is shown when Jiale gives Teresa a reluctant "sorry" and when Terry leaves her kid to take care of another person's child, Jiale, to make money, it is a type of emotional mountaintop. Jiale also creates a powerful bond with Teresa even though, the children in China are being brought up being told that, the people from Singapore are inferiors that is why they come looking for employment in other areas.
