Introduction
The planet Earth is warming every day from the Northern to the Southern Poles. Evidence has shown that the average temperature for the global surface has increased by about 1.1 degrees Celsius (Bose, 2010). The rise in the temperature is higher in sensitive Polar Regions. The effects of the rise in temperature of the planet's surface have resulted in global warming. According to science and geography, global warming is a gradual increase in the temperature of the earth's atmosphere due to the greenhouse effect as a result of the accumulation of carbon dioxide and other pollutants.
The evidence of global warming will be comprehensively discussed based on the events that take place in the world. The causes of global warming will be discussed based on the action of human being and the events that cause environmental problems. Many people fail to differentiate climate change from global warming; therefore, using the terms interchangeably. Geographers use the term "climate change" to describe the shifts that affect the climate and weather systems of the planet (Miskolczi, 2014). Climate change involves the changes in weather and climatic conditions as well as the biodiversity; therefore, global warming may be seen as a form of climate change because it causes the seas to rise and interferes with the earth's ecosystem.
Thesis Statement
This causative essay provides succinct information on the causes of global warming based on the available evidence developed by geographers and another scientist. The causes of global warming may be due to artificial or natural possibilities. One of the causes of natural causes of global warming is the accumulation of gas in the atmosphere. The accumulated natural gas is in earth's atmosphere is normally known as "greenhouse gas". Degradation of the Ozone layer is another cause of global warming. Degradation of the important Ozone layer results from human activities that include burning of fossils in large quantities.
Causes of Global Warming
The causes of global warming vary depending on the researchers and evidence observed on the earth's surface. There are common causes of global warming that have been proposed and documented by many geographers and scientists. First, the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere leads to an increase in the temperature of the earth's surface. Carbon dioxide and other pollutants escape into the earth's atmosphere; therefore absorbing sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced back from the earth's surface (Miskolczi, 2014). In most cases, the radiations escape into space making it easy for the pollutants to accumulate in the atmosphere. The prolonged accumulation of Carbon dioxide in the space makes the planet hotter. The accumulation of carbon dioxide and the natural gases on the space cause a condition known as "greenhouse effect".
Secondly, burning of fossils in large quantities increases the risks of developing global warming in the earth's atmosphere. United States of America is one of the known countries that have incorporated the burning of fossils to generate electricity. Continuous burning of fossils is a human activity that increases the chances of heat-trapping pollution. Burned fossils release a lot of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere; therefore, causing the degradation of the Ozone layer. The ozone layer is a protective barrier that prevents excess emission of solar radiations to the surface of the earth (Bose, 2010). Thirdly, the human actions that cause global warming are the use of methane gas in industrial and domestic practices. The use of methane gas has been common in most parts of the world. Leakage of the gas from the containers increases the number of carbon compounds that trap heat and solar radiations from the space; therefore, causing global warming.
Additionally, natural events like volcanic eruption also cause global warming and contribute to the evidence of the environmental problem in the world. Volcanic eruption leads to release of various products that accumulate in the atmosphere and trap solar radiations and heat (Bose, 2010). Research activities have provided crucial information on the relationship between volcanic activities and global warming due to the decrease glacial coverage on the mountains in the Polar Regions. Lastly, deforestation is a human activity that increases the occurrences of global warming. Tropical forest and vegetation reduce the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the earth's atmosphere because they release oxygen and use carbon dioxide produced from industrial operations (Miskolczi, 2014). The plants consume carbon dioxide and use it to manufacture their food through photosynthesis. The plants also reduce the amount of solar energy and radiations that are responsible for global warming in the atmosphere.
Evidence on the Causes of Global Warming
Evidence is important in supporting the proposed claims on the causes of global warming. The evidence is based on the research data and facts that have been proved by expertise scientists. One of the evidence developed in relation to the industrial release of carbon dioxide is the acidification on the oceans (Bose, 2010). The accumulated carbon dioxide in the water bodies also increases the risks of experiencing global warming because human beings emit more carbon dioxide into the earth's surface; therefore, some fraction of the emitted carbon dioxide is absorbed into the water bodies (Miskolczi, 2014). A critical analysis of the research studies has shown that the quantity of carbon dioxide absorbed into oceans has increased by two million tons yearly. Additionally, monitoring of climatic conditions provides pivotal evidence on the causes and the contributions of carbon dioxide emission. The ability of geographers and other scientists to monitor the changes in climatic conditions contributes to the analysis of how natural gas and carbon dioxide lead to global warming. Scientist proposed in the 1950s that burning of fossils in United States of America to produce electricity accounts to 55% risks of global warming (Bose, 2010).
Additionally, basic physics contribute to the important evidence on the causes of global warming. According to basic physics concepts, carbon dioxide leads in the absorption of solar energy and radiations (Bose, 2010). Research activities conducted in the 1820s have shown that carbon dioxide absorbs 40% of the solar radiations that bounces back from the surface of the earth. lastly, chemical analysis of carbon dioxide present in the earth's atmosphere also provides essential evidence that supports the claims made on causes of global warming (Miskolczi, 2014). The chemical analysis of the focuses on the examination of the composition of the gases produced when fossils are burned. Chemical analysis research has proved that burning of fossils leads to the production of carbon dioxide; therefore, contributing to 70% of total products that trap solar radiations and heat from the space (Bose, 2010).
Conclusion
In conclusion, global warming is caused by both artificial and natural factors. Some pollutants emitted into the atmosphere does not pose a serious risk of global warming because of their short lifespan in the space and inability to absorb heat and radiation energy from the solar system. Human activities are the leading causes of global warming because industrial operations and burning of fossils degrade the Ozone layer that prevents global warming. People should be educated on the importance of reducing and eliminating the causes of global warming to prevent environmental problems in both national and global levels.
