Introduction
Data becomes wisdom in that, drawing various facts collectively inappropriate context yields information that can be helpful practically. In turn, the information mentioned above fosters the quality of knowing (Zeleny 2016). Wisdom is the ability to analyze and practically apply the same data to choose what is right from wrong.
Knowledge acquisition refers to organizing, structuring, and extracting information from a single source. Aristotle, the great Greek philosopher, aptly puts it that the same is akin to the process of learning (Ackoff 2009). He further argues that the human mind at birth is a tabula rasa or blank slate. This is because it possesses no comprehension of the goals, pragmatic universe, nor itself. Acquisition of information is a lifetime process, and examples of the same are through induction, abstraction, and conception.
Knowledge generation is the process of acquiring valuable data or information and developing it within its limits. It involves the external acquisition of expertise as well as the inner creation of the valuable intangible resource. Intuition, belief, and faith are examples of modes of generation of knowledge.
Dissemination is an important feature and characteristic of information management as it ensures the availability of valuable intelligence to those who need it. Its prime example is, for instance, when a governmental medical institute makes a discovery; the information is shared and disseminated to all concerned agencies. Knowledge processing helps in acquiring, utilizing, and creating data. Examples of the same include gathering, analyzing perceiving, and synthesizing information.
An example of knowledge generation is through studying the relationship between the abovementioned knowledge processes, and wisdom exists in that wisdom is the result of the knowledge processes. Understanding is the aptitude to distinguish and decide what features of knowledge are factual, correct, long-lasting, and appropriate to one's life.
How It Has Worked for Me
In more recent years, sitting in a business class and taking notes on how to flourish business is a perfect example of knowledge that can be generated up until it becomes wisdom. I used what I learned in business class and applied in real-life business activities. I used the information learned in forex class to study the forex markets, and trade on forex trading platforms provided by brokerage firms and thus earning maximum profits. I chose what relevant information to apply in business, and it worked for me.
Barriers
Some of the barriers to knowledge acquisition include the fact some information provided may be outrightly wrong or incorrect. As such, the same cannot be knowledge and thus cannot be consequently, wisdom. Barriers to the acquisition of knowledge prevent one from achieving the purpose of knowledge generation, dissemination as well as gaining understanding. For instance, I once received the wrong weather forecast information from my local television network that our region would experience heavy rainfall. I dressed warmly and walked around with an umbrella only for it not to rain.
