Effects of Globalization on Peace

Peace is the state where there is calmness, no conflicts or disturbances. Globalization can affect the order of the world positively or negatively. (Amavilah, Asongu, and Andres, 17). By bringing various states together for business reasons, the relationship between the countries involved gets better. There is the cohesion of the citizens of the countries involved. Globalization has seen the formation of various trading blocs which help in the growth of economies of the countries that are members. Good economies help in the promotion of peace as the standards of living become better which minimizes the chances of criminal activities and other forms of immoralities that negatively influence the stability of a country. On the other hand, globalization may affect peace adversely when the involved states tend to go against the set regulations. Globalization may lead to acts of terrorism with the terrorists taking advantage of integration and the relationship of the member states which at times ends up jeopardizing the security and the peace of different countries.

Globalization is a valuable tool when it comes to solving global problems in various parts of the world. Globalization helped bring the world wars to an end. Diplomatic talks have helped in many countries to cool political temperatures in countries such as South Sudan and other countries such as Libya, Somalia, and Iraq. The United Nations which is a world body was formed under the principle of globalization. The organs of the UN have helped in settling disputes in countries that are hard hit by political and other forms of conflicts diplomatically.

Globalization promotes trade among nations which supports the unity of the subject countries. Global openness is critical in ensuring high levels of peace in the world. (Lingard, Bob, and Sam Sellar, 18)An increase in global transparency would significantly prevent military conflict as it will promote bilateral trade relationships. States that carry out bilateral trade are more open to each other have a high level of dyadic conflict if the multilateral trade is shunned. Globalization promotes good governance which supports the peace within a specific state and the world at large.

Conclusion

Globalization is an excellent way of promoting global peace and integration by bringing openness between two or more states. (Amavilah, et al., 17). It increases the advantage of trade both bilaterally and multilaterally. As a result of globalization, economies of most nations have significantly grown due to the availability of markets in other countries as well as other good coming into these countries. Economic stability is a factor that determines the peace and security of a nation and eventually that of the whole world. Economic stability improves the living standards of citizens which affect levels of immoralities and criminal activities which are significant threats to the country and world peace in general. On the other hand, it might lead to conflicts due to openness which creates a loophole for criminals from other parts of the world into a peaceful country which poses a threat to the security and peace of a nation. (Amavilah, et al., 17). This may happen as a result of lifting barriers and tariffs among countries that are getting involved in a trade relationship through trading as a result of globalization.
