Donald Slager has served the industry for more than 30 years, working at all levels of the organization during his career. He is currently the Chief Executive officer of Republic Services. He was named as the Country's most innovative leader in 2019 by Forbes and it was under his leadership that the company was named as one of the most sustainable countries in 2018 and 2019.
Getting to unite the community towards a common task can sometimes be hectic. This can be eased through the creation of community programs such as clean-ups, the addition of recycling bins in sidewalks or transit stops to encourage members to dispose of recyclable waste properly, and involving the local authorities concerned with the environment. This can also be supplemented by creating community web pages or websites as well as communicating the benefits of recycling and a clean environment for the community.
Waste is an asset in the wrong place and a valuable resource if adequately planned. By minimizing the creation of byproducts and keeping them in their original expected place as an input, waste can be a resource to extract value from or sell. Developing community recycling programs means that they can use this waste as a source of power, and in case of power surges, the community can depend on their power source. This shows that there is a higher value in waste.

Enactment of policies and education on recycling ensures some moral of responsibility in recycling, and they should be frequently implemented.
The best method of creating a community recycling program is to come up with a curbside collection program, and this is achieved by deciding how the community should prepare the materials, whether separating by type or how they should be packaged. This includes determining equipment to be used and the collection method. The interviewee proved to be well informed on matters of recycling and was confident about his answers.
Finally, creating an education program enlightens the community on various measures, from waste sorting to the benefits of recycling. Useful strategies in achieving successful community recycling programs include setting up specific goals and composting programs that mandate participation. Strong community programs can lead to a united and healthy community that improves the building pillars for upcoming sustainable communities such as parks and air quality.
