Introduction
Media plays an essential role in any nation. It is the presence of media that we can share the required information to the citizens within the required time. It is therefore crucial for the nation to ensure that all the citizens are informed about the different occurrences in the nation. However, the face of media and information sharing has changed due to the emergence of the internet and the smartphones, where people can access any form of information at any time. In China as per the author, I support the ideas that receiving information in China through media has changed drastically.
However, the purported restrictions implemented by China over speech are a worrying trend. It is like denying people their right, and China should understand the importance of having a freedom of speech for the citizen. At the same time, the fact that China and the United States have a close relationship, they should accommodate general opinions not threatening to pull out of United States unless they are allowed to operate using unfiltered Chinese language. With the changes that took place in the 1980s, this allowed the newspapers and other media sources to operate as independent entities. This is a good idea, the government should not interfere with the media houses since at the end of the day it will appear that they want the media houses to report what the government wants. Reading this part, I find it interesting in that was it not for the efforts of the public and the Google campaign on freedom of speech, little could have been attained regarding media freedom in China. It has given the journalists a perfect feeling, as they now regard themselves as professionals and not the government`s agents. I believe this is an important concept as it gives these journalists the freedom to report the relevant news. However, the move of the Chinese government to monitor the information that is posted on the internet is a perfect idea considering this is the era of fake, manipulative news. As much as the Chinese Media structure has embraced changes, one crucial factor I agree is the fact that globalization has motivated these changes over the past years. Globalization has expanded the media in information transmission, and this has well improved the efficiency. The discussion about globalization and its effect on media is appealing, and concerning the other nations, I have always known it has excellent effects on any media.
From the articles, China is going changes, and this is what is called modernization. While I thought I understand the meaning of modernization, little did I analyze the concept from the media point of view. All I have known is that modernization is about industrialization and urbanization, but in the article, media transformation created by the presence of technology is also part of modernization. It is true China has changed over the years, and this is among the nations that are highly industrialized. The changes have maintained homogeneity in China, and the fact that the government was trying to dictate the lives of journalists in China was against the equality concept.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there is a lot I have learned from the articles and the video, and the most critical part is the fact that China is undergoing modernization. Also, the ability of people to fight for speech freedom enhanced their ability to attain the freedom of speech, and this has enhanced the quality of information relayed by the journalists.
