Ann Deever, a former larry's beau, and Steve Deever's daughter is in the house. Chris, Larry's brother had, choreographed her presence. Chris intends to propose marriage to her in front of his parents who are reluctant by the fact that she was his brother's girlfriend and the uncertainty that Larry might be alive. Ann and Chris have moved on and believed that Larry might never come back. Ann accepts the proposal after a confrontation. Ann and Her brother George Deever had vowed to disown their father after pleading guilty for the sale of defective engine cylinder heads for use in American fighter jets, which led to the untimely death of 21 pilots. Steve was Joe's associate in a manufacturing plant, and as the head of the production, he administered the sale of these parts. Joe was exonerated since Steve had acted in his capacity.

George however, learns through his father that Steve and he had conspired to sell the defective items. He makes a call to Joe and asks him to meet up at Joe's home. Joe refuted those claims, and as George was leaving, Joe acknowledged the shady dealings and the set-up plan to jail Steve. Ann confirms that she had received a letter from Larry before his death on the possibility of a missing plane that he would fly in. Everyone is amused, and Chris reads the letter aloud to Joe and momentarily goes out for a drive. Joe takes the blame on the crime and decides to take out his life. Kate who was aware of the guilt in her husband asks Chris and Anne to get married and move away from the small town devoid from family embarrassment.

Conclusion

In summary, the play's plot and the nature of characters in the place mouthwatering and therefore worth seeing. The themes of immorality and impacts of unethical society are evident; the concept of family life, mythology, love, and Betrayal all get entangled within the play. The writers applied figures of speech such as symbolism makes the entire play fascinating. Also, the transitioning of events in a single day from the innocence of Joe to the unraveling of the entire truth is mind-boggling. The fallen tree signified the fall of Joe's innocence and death of his son which contradicts with Frank's prediction.
