Alcohol is a lead contributor to the loss of lives and livelihoods for many families. Societies can enact strategic measures to combat the harmful use of liquor that endangers human lives. Strategic measures to curb or mitigate dangers associated with alcohol use target improving the health and collective outcomes for persons, households, and the public. Societal measures mitigate risks related to alcohol use can focus on developing policies that curb the harmful use of liquor at the societal level or local community level.
The society can undertake media campaigns designed to discourage underage drinking. Underage drinking exposes young people to crime and other detrimental behaviors that endanger their lives. With the help of media campaigns, society can build a broader public awareness of the nature and scale of dangers associated with alcohol use in society (Poznyak et al. 2014). The campaigns should cover activities by individuals and businesses, which must include alcohol marketing practices to ensure they discourage underage drinking. The society can also deploy measures that hinder or restrict youth's easy access to alcohol at home and in commercial settings; it discourages underage drinking and controls dangers associated with liquor uptake (Poznyak et al. 2014).
According to Harding et al. (2016), educational campaigns can also get implemented at the societal level targeting schools, colleges, churches, mosques, alcohol companies, and other entities in the society to discourage alcohol abuse and underage drinking. Communities can get mobilized to avert underage sale of liquor to the sustenance of an alcohol-free society, particularly for groups exposed to alcohol abuse threats such as the youth. Laws can also get enforced against serving alcoholic drinks to intoxication.
In conclusion, alcohol has resulted in the death and endangerment of many lives in society. Strategic measures to curb or mitigate dangers associated with alcohol use, such as media campaigns designed to discourage underage drinking, should get drafted and implemented. It will change the behaviors of those endangering themselves and others through alcohol use.
