A Christmas Memory is a plot that focuses on the significant events during the festive season. Narratively, it over the action in a cause-effect manner. It is a reminiscence narrative that helps the narrator to remember his childhood events during the festive season. The plot is more significant to the narrative because without it; there is no narrative. In the story, the narrator- Buddy and his distant cousin lives together, during November, they wake up one morning and realizes that it is on a festive season and for this reason, they prepare several fruitcakes because charismas was approaching and they did not have enough money (Capote, Truman, 230). The story is one of the evocations in the literature that idealizes the lifestyle in a childhood stage; it projects on the memory of a seven-year-old child. As the story begins, the narrator presents the theme of reminiscence and memory. This paper, therefore, analyses a specific element of the story and uses it to communicate a point.

The memories are linked to an idealized storytelling mechanics and creativity as well. The story begins by directly involving the reader to imagine late November. Buddy and his cousin prepare for the Christmas ritual; they significantly consider sharing what they have with the people. The main aim of the narrator in this story is to tell readers that one needs a friend. It presents an insight or an idea about the life that reveals the importance of having a friend. The entire narrative is based on their life, working together to ensure that the Christmas ritual is successful (Capote, Truman, 232).

As the story continues, the two are getting closer to making Christmas a great event; however, as time goes by, they get separated when Buddy enrolls for military training. Their relationship as friends grows stronger and stronger as they live together and share most of their daily experiences. The story is filled with humor.

The narrator does something to express his concern for a friend; throughout the story, the narrator attempts to illustrate the essence of having a true friend in life. Before they get separated, they have been through a lot, enjoying Christmas events together. Buddy, therefore, does something to make his friend happy and express his feelings and, more importantly, play his role as a friend.

The narrator uses the word something to word something with a significant purpose for the story. In friendship, anything good can serve a purpose to keep the relationship healthy; the narrator, therefore, uses something to show that he could accept anything from his cousin. Buddy reveals his level of satisfaction by having her around, through Christmas events, chopping a Christmas, tree and making some decorations at their home as well as making kites demonstrate the kind of relationship they are having.

Although the narrator does not provide the name of his friend, the sixty-something cousin is his best friend with whom he spent childhood (Capote, Truman, 230). It because of their innocence that allows friendship among them to occur. The narrator reveals the aspect of good friendship, and he knows about thigs that friend likes and things she never did. He characterizes her as an idiosyncratic individual, the one with unusual traits.

From then readers' perspectives, something brings bring about an urge to continue reading the story trying to find out what his cousin gave him. Based on the story, something is an essential thing because the narrator's cousin considers something as an element of friendship that serves a great purpose in friendship. Something is used as a symbol that exemplifies the essence of preparing something for a friend to express gratitude or concern.

Conclusion

All the events throughout the story provides the narrator with great memories of his friend, the author uses another trait of reminiscence by listing the objects like what the narrator and his cousin eats for dinner, the ingredients for preparing fruitcake ( ginger, cherries, and blackberry jam) and decoration materials for Christmas tree (silver star, frazzle tinsel coils ). It is, therefore, significant for the reader to consider the listing (Capote, Truman, 239). The list does not only help in the process of reading to picture the scene that the author describes but also establishes the authority of the storyteller. The story shows that friendship is essential, and it is timeless.
