Introduction
Getting the right employees is an issue of concern for many companies because they play an essential role in helping the company achieve its objectives. However, hiring qualifies staff is not enough since the company needs to train the employees on their rights and responsibilities. To ensure that the employees carry out the duties allocated to them, the employer has the responsibility of ensuring that the employees are treated ethically. To maintain its reputation, the company should ensure that the employees are well versed with company ethics.
During the training, employees will be trained on privacy right which means that if an employee is using a personal device, the employer has no right to access the information in it. If for example an employee receives a phone call and indicates that it is a personal call then it should not be recorded. Employees also are entitled to workplace safety, and the employer must ensure that necessary measures are put in place to ensure to ensure that employees operate a hazard-free environment (Leonard, 2017). Employees will also be educated on their right to breaks to have refreshments, lunch as well as rest. Where there is a right, there is a responsibility, so employees are expected to do the tasks as required by the employer through strict compliance of all laid down regulations. They are also responsible for ensuring that they market the firm's products effectively as well as boosting the reputation of the company.
In an employer-employee relationship, the employer has an obligation of ensuring that the welfare of the employees is well taken care of (Leonard, 2017). When carrying out marketing duties employees may be prone to danger so the marketing firm should ensure that safety is guaranteed. The firm has the ethical duty of ensuring that necessary policies that guarantee employee safety are implemented even if they are likely to affect the profitability of the firm. The employer is also obliged to ensure that the marketing retainer fees, as well as the commissions, are paid on time and computed reasonably to boost employee loyalty.
Marketers are faced with dilemmas in their daily operations in which making the wrong decision affects the reputation of the firm (Sullivan, & Robinson, 2017. When testing employees' understanding of the firm's ethical standards, they will be presented with the following marketing dilemma. The firm has decided that you will no longer receive any retainer fees but instead will be paid on a commission. You have not sold any product for the past week and when you finally do you realize that the product is faulty. Would you call the client and inform him or you would let him be?
In utilitarianism, it is assumed that the person does not care if a person gets hurt as long as they accomplish their task (Fryer, 2018). In a dilemma, the salesperson might decide that he will not disclose the information that the product is faulty as long as he has sold. Relativism, on the other hand, means that there is no clear guideline and the person acts as per his/her conscience. When carrying the duties employees are met with ethical decisions such as using office time on personal tasks such as calling a friend. Also using the firm's resources such as office phone to make personal calls is unethical. Although a behavior such as using the business hours for individual tasks are unethical, the person may justify his/her actions if there was an emergency, so he/she needed to make that call.
