Introduction
Organization management is the process of uniting people on common ground and make them put efforts towards achieving a common goal. Through the management of an organization, resources are used optimally, and planning is done meticulously at the workplace. For an organization to acquire better results in the long run, it has to consider its workers in terms of their behaviours, stress and management skills, and insight into its culture and diversity.
Organizational Behavior
The study of organizational behaviour entails how individuals behave in an organizational setting, the organizational itself, and the interface between the behaviours of the members and the organizational context. The three facets of this definition contain the individual behaviour, the organization itself and the link between the two (Saravanakumar, 2016). It is good to note that it is the people that make the organization in which, without them, there would be no organization. For this reason, managers want to understand the organizations they are working in; they must understand the people they are working with firstly.
Elements of Organizational Behavior
There are key elements that sum up the behaviour of an organization. They include people, structure, technology, and environment.
People
People constitute both the social and internal systems of the organization. They are majorly made up of individual groups that can be small or big, formal or informal, and official and unofficial (Saravanakumar, 2016). People work in an organization as a group to achieve the objectives of the organization as they also benefit positively.
Structure
The structure involves the official relationship connecting individuals in an organization. Members from various departments in an organization may be performing different tasks; therefore, t5hey need to be linked in a structural way for effective co-ordination of their work.
Technology
Technology takes part when people use machines to process the works they perform. It significantly influences the working relationship because it allows workers to perform more tasks in a better manner as it also restricts them in numerous ways.
Environment
The environment here refers to the external area of performing organizational operations. Its system is large and may contain the government, the family, and other organizations which influence each other mutually.
Approaches to Organizational Behavior
The modern approach to organizational behaviour aims at managing organizations and understanding how they operate because it searches for the reasons why people do behave as they do. There are four approaches which include the following: a human resources approach, a contingency approach, a productivity approach, and a systems approach (Saravanakumar, 2016). The human resource approach is mostly connected with the development and growth of the organizations. This approach is helpful to the employees because it makes them better and more responsible. It is also called a supportive approach because it makes the management change from controllers to supporters of good performance and growth. The productivity approach compares both input and output units in the form of ratios (Saravanakumar, 2016). During measurements, when more outputs are produced from constant inputs, then productivity is increased (Saravanakumar, 2016). Apart from the economic side of outputs and inputs, both human and social input and outputs are also considered valuable. A contingency approach suggests that different behavioural practices require are applied in different situations. Meaning, there must be a careful analysis of every situation before any action is done. Finally, systems approach interacts with other functions because they are interrelated. It emphasizes the relationship between the organization and its surrounding as a whole (Saravanakumar, 2016). Once we are equipped with knowledge concerning behaviors in organizations, managing time and stress becomes easy for effective results in the organization.
Time and Stress Management
Stress has different meanings to different people, and whatever causes stress to an individual may not be the reason for another individual. Having stress is not bad for some cases because it is for a good reason, challenges come when it is prolonging, and negative effects are now indicated. Stressors may be physical, environmental, and social and emotional. Stress in organizations may be very difficult to deal with because people are many, and it is hard to reach out to everyone. When stress levels are high, it creates barriers that hinder personal efforts in an organization (Mental Help.net, 2015). It may cause less interest in organizational activities, withdrawal from people, an increase in inactive behaviors, and lack of interest in food or sleep. Stress is a tool that can be used in the management of time as well because, when time is used efficiently, the majority of stressors will not find their way in (Baldwin et al., 2008). this can be achieved by making strategies for saving time physically to release or avoid stress. These strategies include: making time to relax, making time to sleep, making time for laughing, managing your extra-time well, getting motivated by physical activities, having breaks for vacations, creating time specifically for both family and work responsibility to avoid stress in the process (Mental Help.net, 2015). Some approaches to time management like traditional ways are hindered from over-emphasis, which creates stress rather than reducing it.
Finally, taking both value-centred and balanced-focus approaches to manage your time, chances of falling into deep stress are very low.
Discussion
Culture and Diversity
Organizational culture describes the shared values and goals of an organization. It is possible to create a culture of respect when people share their values and goals. Organizations with strong supportive cultures attract loyal employees with high qualifications (Baldwin et al., 2008). Zappos culture remains one of the outstanding business cultures that are worth emulation by other organizations. Unlike other Chief Executive Officer Zappos' boss believes that giving definition and maintaining the organizational cultures is the only key to a profitable and successful business.
Comparing and Contrasting Zappos Culture with Other Organizational Cultures
Zappos organization employ their staff based on their interest on the cultures of the company, and this has led to recruiting the right people for the job, unlike other organizations which base their employment skills on the qualifications of an employee and experience in the field which in some cases, does not bring the results as expected.
Zapponians are used to embracing their diversity as a team and celebrate each other's diversity as a way of building a strong enduring business (Zappos.com, 2020). Unfortunately, some organizations do not employ people with different cultures and diversity or even tribe because they cannot embrace change. Zappos organization is proof that one may come from any region with a total difference in diversity and culture but still embrace the new culture in the company which is the center of their success (Zappos.com, 2020).
Zappos has built their brand successfully because of their consistency incorporation of a strong culture. This has made their businesses to be successful for years because customers have trust in their products. Other organizations fail terribly in business because they do not want to adapt to consistency as a way of success. Some start well but ends up defeated on the way because of the poor corporate culture.
Conclusion
In conclusion, for an organization to be successful, the management must have a clear understanding of the behaviors of its employees and attitudes for a successful company. From the behaviors, taming stress and helping employees manage their time becomes an easy task as they instil organization cultures in their employees.
