Victors Sejour is famously recognized for developing a fictional based tale known as "The Mulatto." In the story, he plays Georges's character, who is not aware of his father, and the mother never reveals his father's name to him. However, concern has been raised concerning the editor's inclusion of Sejour in our anthropology. And why should he be omitted from anthropology? Anthropology involves the study of the evolutionary origin of humans, or it is the study of man and his society (Shu & Pease, 2015). Is it because the editor's point of view perceives that Sejour was the son of Laisa, who would never mention to him his father's identity? The omission may also be attributed to the fact George's mother was a victim of rape and confusion (Shu & Pease, 2015). In reality, the editors consider the inclusion of Sejour and his predicament into anthropology due to the difficult predicaments he faced in his life.
For instance, her mother felt ugly and insolent, but struggles to keep up with Alfred does not have affection for her. Following the pregnancy and delivering of a son, Alfred disappoints her by refusing to recognize his son, and her mother feels like Georges would never be safe at the hands of his denial father. The mother is guilty of Sejour's denial and thus did not disclose the identity of Alfred to Georges (Shu & Pease, 2015). George's mother is restricted from discussing Alfred, who has turned his son and wife into slaves. However, the inclusion of Sejour in our anthropology sheds light on the concept and theme of duality, which is evident through his characters, lives, and actions, which contributes significantly to the writing of anthropology.
Therefore, it is essential that the editors include Sejour in our anthropology due to his actions, lives, and the characters he interacted with during his lifetime, including his father and mother. Therefore, in considerations of future anthropology, the editors thought that it was ideal for including Sejour in our anthropology. Notably, the most significant principle that governs the operations of editors is non-overestimation of the majority or public knowledge and non-underestimation of majority intelligence (Shu & Pease, 2015). Therefore, in creating and bring ideal concepts and aspects of societal anthropology, the editor plays a significant role in shedding more insights on how we can appreciate our current societies in comparison to the ancient societies, which were more associated with unideal scenarios, including denial.
Therefore, it was worth that Sejour be included in our anthropology to create appreciation and understanding of the concept of complexity and diversity of human beings. The editors did not overestimate public knowledge since the life predicament of Sejour is still being experienced in contemporary society today, hence inclusion in our anthropology was ideal in appreciating our trust, ethos, and care in our current societies. Human beings have evolved over time, which ideally is from 'grass to grass.'(Shu & Pease, 2015).
However, I think Sejour should not have been included in our anthropology since his life predicaments do not represent the ideals of good society of man. The editors may underestimate the public knowledge at this point. Anthropology involves how man's ancient societies have evolved into modern society, and thus the society is perceived as an ideal place without any unjust circumstances that Georges underwent. Therefore, including Sejour in our anthropology doe does not create an ideal image of what the society ought to be, but instead can lead to antagonism. Hence Sejour should not be included in our anthropology.
