I was raised in a Christian home, and when it to prayers and issues about church activities, my parents were rigorous and majorly my mother. I recall very well that we used to attend church services thrice a week, which shaped me to have strong Christian background of prayers. My mother played a crucial role in shaping me to embrace Christian values throughout my daily lives. We used to pray as a family on various occasions, upon waking up, before and after a meal, and before going to bed. My mother was a prayer warrior of the family; thus, it made me master critical aspects of prayers. I can recall the exact words of my mother since I was young, telling me, "Kelvin, make sure prayer is something that you excel in," her terms changed because since that period I have never stopped praying.

My mother is a pivot in my life, and she is also understanding. The full support and positive support she has given me is immense and unmeasurable I consider myself lucky to have a person who is both a close friend to me and also a mother. I say this because not everyone enjoys such kind of relationship. I can try to find many words to describe her, but only one word stands out "incredible." She has cared for to see me grow and follow the desired norms and customs of society. My mother is my sole support system as every time something that is exciting occurs, or there is a crisis in my life; she is the first person I turn to. I have many friends in my life who came and went, but my mother has stuck beside me through thick and thin to see me grow to be who I am today. This is the only individual that understands me better than anyone else, as I can say, "she understands my DNA."

However, life is full of ups and downs, and in the wake of 6th April 2017, my mother fell very sick, and she had to be admitted to the hospital. Her condition worsened and had to be taken to the HDU, High-Dependency Unit. This is the area in the hospital where patients need more extensive care than in the normal ward. Level care is provided in this unit than the typical setting as the patients are at the risk of requiring intensive care admission. When you have a patient at the High-Dependency Unit, the health practitioners do not allow you to see your patient even if it is a close family member. Seeing my mother in that state with nothing to do really crashed me, which subjected me to a considerable amount of suffering that eventually led me to depression. The person I could run to when in trouble and advise me or console me was in the HDU, and there was utterly nothing I could do about her. This led me to question God, and the Christian values my mother had all along taught me.

I wanted to see my mother, but I could not since no one was allowed in the unit she was admitted in, but only for the doctors attending to her. It is at this point that I began questioning my Christianity beliefs and God. I asked God many times; why my mother? My mother had been so faithful and a God-fearing person, why not any other person and not her. She had followed all Christian doctrines and served God well, why was He putting her all through this? Was this aimed at punishing me? I wondered what was happening to her and to me. However, every time I sat down and contemplated the way things were happening very fast, the exact words of my mother kept ringing in my mind, "Kelvin, make sure prayer is something that you excel in." It drastically changed me into a prayerful person. I would pray for my mother every minute I had a chance to pray. Even while walking, my friends would think I was upset-minded. However, I was deep in prayers interceding for my mother's recovery, asking God to intervene and heal my mother, who was my mentor and my sole support system.

Conclusion

However, my prayers never went to vain as God Himself proved to me that he hears our prayers when we call upon him for his intervention. I can recall very well that on 18th April 2017, the doctor who was attending to her disclosed to me that my mother was in a stable condition, and she was out of High-Dependency Unit. My mother was now fine and was discharged from the hospital. Every time I talk to her, I always thank her for the installation of Christian ethics in me. With this regard, prayers, it is indeed true that prayers give comfort amid suffering. My mother has complete faith and trust in me that I am doing the right thing with my life. She is the driving force in my life, and whenever I am going through hard times, I remember her wise words.
