Talking Point #1: Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Sexually transmitted diseases have become global health issues. The issues have been neglected as a public health priority in Minnesota. Most of the control efforts have failed. The sexually transmitted infection affect the larger population of Minnesota. I chose to write to the youths of Minnesota on Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases because most individuals are reluctant and unwilling to discuss sexually transmitted diseases openly. As a result, there are devastating consequences for STD prevention efforts. Changing behavior entails a comfortable discussion of sexual health issues with open communication between parents as well as children.

Talking Point #2: Solution

Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases requires effective interventions as well as actions with high-quality evidence about individuals and programs. Effective interventions can reduce morbidity, mortality, and complications. As a result, there is a need to come up with a framework of individuals and at the population level. It should aim at exploring the effect of the sexually transmitted infection with the interventions for controlling the infections (Garcia-Retamero & Cokely, 2014). Useful diagnostic tests, as well as treatments and vaccines, are proposed for preventing the infections. However, these options might not be readily available in resource-poor settings. Partner notification with antenatal syphilis screening is significant for preventing infection as well as reinfection.

As a Public Health Nurse, I require assistance in terms of interventions to control sexually transmitted infections by reducing the prevalence of infection in Minnesota (Unemo et al., 2017). Intervention should provide an opportunity for reducing the transmission risks. The use of the antivirals also can suppress the reinfection, thus reducing transmission. The intervention should focus on the entire population of Minnesota, especially for the youth, for which the risks of infection is high. Besides, improving the infrastructure of treatment services have the potential to reduce the incidences of syphilis as well as gonorrhea.

Think and protect yourself from Sexually Transmitted Diseases
