My previous abilities to determine who I am and my exact cultural identity have substantially helped in shaping the personality, especially in recent times. I am a Mexican American since both of my parents were born in the city of Jalisco in Mexico, while I was born in California, United States of America. Even though I have spent all the years in the USA, I have been driven by various cultural forces such as music, technology, and education to understand and live exceptionally as a Mexican and American, depending on what I am doing and where I am doing it.
It is indisputable that everyone, especially youths, listens to music quite often, and they tend to have variations in taste, choice, and preferences. My interests have altered from time to time, as I graduate from middle school to high school. For instance, I began loving fangirl of boy bands, before I switched to Frank Ocean and currently into Spanish songs. My current love for Spanish music is more potent than before, and this has been motivated by the effect of spending much time with family members. My parents' habit of playing English songs so rarely has made me acknowledge and appreciate Spanish music. For this reason, I find myself flexible while making choices on what music to listen to, in various instances, because I can do the American songs and so the Mexican ones.
Technology has also had a role to play in the alignment of my cultural identity and background. With the current innovations and inventions in the field of technology, popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have attracted so many people, me inclusive. Besides, we live in an era where almost everyone owns a mobile phone. While with my phone at times, I easily connect to relatives from Mexico, and we share images and videos as a way of keeping me updated on any new changes. This has enabled me to live in the Mexican lifestyle because we can easily communicate, and receive, dietary plans, homeland dress models, or hair-making styles. Consequently, my stay in California, and regular interaction with native Americans either physically or in the online sites (WhatsApp and Facebook) have also allowed me to gain a coherent understanding of the local culture. For this reason, technology has granted me the opportunity to behave or act differently in the company of various friends.
Furthermore, education has also encouraged me to stick to my cultural background. During my early stages in middle and High school, I did all English subjects, and that helped me to learn the standard English spoken by most native Americans. I have, therefore, been able to interact straightforwardly without any imminent challenges. On the other hand, my interaction with parents steered me to have a desire to gain fluency in the Spanish language. Currently, I have been able to undertake Spanish as a single unit, but anthropology as the main course. This means that education has helped in binding me with the Mexican culture, as I am progressively perfecting how to read and read the words. Upon the completion of this unit, I would be able to interact with two different cultures freely, but of course, I am a hybrid, and that perfectly defines my cultural background.
