Introduction
The topic of leadership is often featured when constructing various ways of managing business enterprise regardless of it being private or public (Rees & Porter, 2015). Indeed, management and leadership have a different construct, but to some extent, they often share the same approaches in ensuring the goals and the objectives of the cooperation is attained (Morphet, 2015). Therefore, since the paper focuses on leadership, it is an art of inspiring and motivating a population to act towards achieving a common objective (Morphet, 2015). In a commercial setup, it mandates the directing of the workforce and colleagues through the implementation of a leadership strategy to meet the enterprises' needs (Rees & Porter, 2015). Often public and private institutes have different approaches to directing their workers and colleagues, but at times these methods are the same. For instance, the approach used by public and private structures differ because of their construct; for example, as per the sector's definition, a public institute (Google LLC) is a corporation whose ownership is diversified amongst the general public shareholders through the free trade of stock exchange shares or over-the-counter market. In contrast, a private organization (Dell Company) is any form of partnership, corporation, individual, or agency that is not managed by a profit or public body. Therefore, the paper compares and contrasts leadership approaches between Google LLC and Dell Company.
Organizations
Google LLC
Google LLC received lots of attention and acclaim for its unique approach in an organizational culture that promoted the standards of loyalty and creativity (Thompson, 2019). It has established several essential products by strengthening the norms of innovation that includes the Google search engine, maps, and chrome web browser, among others. The culture contributed to its evolution into a sizeable organizational culture that led to reforms on the leadership model. Google LLC uses a distributed leadership approach that has unique leadership positions such as Chief Culture Officer and Chief Internet Evangelist (Thompson, 2019). It is overseen by a board of directors who make the decisions, then pass them to the executive management group that is composed of several fields such as engineering, legal, sales, and finance, among others (Thompson, 2019).
Dell Company
Dell company/Dell Inc. is a company that has managed to change its leadership technique over the years due to intrinsic and extrinsic forces (Fisher, 2004). Due to its centralized organizational culture, the company presently operates under a centralized leadership standard, especially the win-at-all-costs culture. After the economic turmoil in 200o that left the company financially disadvantages, the company stopped customizing and delivering personal computers for all purse and purpose; thus, affecting its operation (Fisher, 2004). Presently the company's revenue is expected to reach $50 billion and to grow more in the future (Hill & Jones, 2007). The centralized approach that made this possible was due to its seven-principle plan that includes optimism, humility, drive, vision, selflessness, good judgment, and relationship (Hill & Jones, 2007).
Similarities
A common element in the private and public leadership strategy is political influence and management. Majorly, Google LCC and Dell Inc. leaders are concerned with meeting the personnel needs, the motivation of the subordinates, and attaining financing to maintain the operational efficiency of the organizations (Flemming, 2016). Additionally, both the leadership entities must address internal and external problems facing their industries; for instance, there are functional contracts to be reached and maintained; prospects of persuasion and coercion to be measured; and gains and losses to be accounted for (Flemming, 2016). In other terms, both sect leaders must evaluate and interpret political, social, economic spheres of the business; analyze the consequences of the legal standards and actions, and obtain the needed competency to persuade and bargain effectively to extent organizational objectives (Flemming, 2016). Both private and public perspectives must have the skill in implementing stakeholders' and shareholders' designed and projected aims as well as implement the five stages of implementing a plan that includes planning, decision making, organizing, leadership, and controlling (Flemming, 2016).
Differences
Both Google LLC and Dell Inc. perspectives have different leadership perspectives. First, if there is a need for implementing a program strategy, the section of decision making always contributes to the difference in the approach. According to research conducted by Jhita (2019), if a public organization such as Google LCC needs to enhance the efficiency of decision making, there is the need to bring in leaders with private enterprise skills. Unfortunately, even the introduction of individual sector leaders might undermine the complexity of the public organizations that are answerable to taxpayers. In other terms, private sector leaders are not competent enough to handle operational tasks of public institutes even though they have the expertise of implementing decisions as per the program schedule (Jhita, 2019). Google LLC's perspective is more complicated than Dell Inc. because it fuses the political and administrative roles. It often works through the establishment of a coalition of those willing. At times, it manages competing interests; therefore, making the objectives to be many and more complicated than that of the private sector (Jhita, 2019).
Conclusion
To conclude, leadership is an essential element in attaining the objectives of both public and private entities. Even though organizations such as Google LLC and Dell Inc. are from different commercial sectors, their leadership is, at times, similar and other times different. For instance, when it comes to addressing an external and internal issue affecting the organizations, both leadership perspectives are the same. Conversely, when speeding up a program, public institutes often fall back due to the complex distributed organizational culture. At the same time, it is efficient in the private sector due to the centralized corporate culture.
