HRMD management organization is a private firm concern with the provision of consultation services to the members. The main customers of the firm are health care providers. To ensure that member's needs are attained, the firm separately maintains their accounts. It was a great privilege for me to secure an internship program in such a busy service industry. My first time to report in the workplace was not alone. There was a big team of interns from diverse fields of education. The majority were from the field of medicine. I noticed that the management planned all this for orientation to avoid interruption of the institution, save time, and familiarize the trainee with the environment. Later, we split into the respective departments. I joined the finance unit with different sections, and the Quick book was the first one. During the internship period, I gained not only a lot of experience from accounting but also teamwork.

In the quick book section, I was given a manual of the Quick book package that I studied for some time. It was not my first encounter with the application since I knew about it. I learned that it was the accounting system the organization has fully integrated. However, at the beginning posed some challenges and seemed to be user-unfriendly. The system had modifications to suit the services of the organization. The supervisor assigned to me was more determined to make sure I understand completely. After the manual accounting system explanation, the supervisor related it with the operation of quick books. Additionally, with his guidance allowed me to post some transactions in the system. With time, I became a guru in Quick book application. At this point, I gained analytical experience from the organization. The manual accounting system performs the same way as computerized accounting; therefore, the type of accounting system does not matter so long as you comprehend the manual system properly.

Another experience gained was working as a team. A team brings members together with different opinions. I was allowed to be a member of the procurement committee. As a group, we evaluated the quotation floated by the creditors. I was unwilling to share my views regarding selection because my first attempt was rejected. I felt unwanted and kept silent as the meeting progressed. The procurement officer approached me and gave me an explanation of why some of the quotations are nullified. It depended on not only the price of the product to be supplied but also on the quality. Some creditors are known to supply goods of high quality than others. He gave me the list of all the suppliers. I gained a lot of knowledge and became a great team player. I understood that the interest of the team overrides the interest of an individual since it is in the best interest of the organization.

The procurement process began with the end-user, who is the person requesting for the goods. In HRMD management, the authorization of product requisition settled with the head of the department. If the goods requested were out of stock, the procurement officer liaisons with suppliers to send their quotations. From the quotations, the committee evaluated and selected a suitable supplier as per the Procurement Act. Then, it sent a message of regret to the unsuccessful creditors, and a document called Purchase order to successful applicants. In the document, it indicated the quantity, price, and total amount of the consignment. When the goods were distributed, an inspection report was prepared to indicate whether the goods were in proper condition after that a goods received note was prepared to show the type and quantity received by the organization. Reaching this point, the organization owed the creditor. It was upon the supplier to demand payment. They wrote an invoice to the firm which was used to make payment. Therefore, I gained experience in the whole procurement process, which I can use to set up the same department elsewhere.

For liquidity purposes, under strict supervision, I also monitored the total amount owed to the suppliers. I generated account payables reconciliation reports to the management of HRMD from the quick book application. It helped the organization in investment decisions. Therefore, I gained experience in gauging whether to invest in the short term or long term projects.

The above experiences were attained with the help of my supervisor. He was friendly and dedicated as a trainer. He led as an example by keeping time to ensure that I delivered within time. Also, he taught me to be a goal-oriented person. The supervisor made sure I don't go out of departmental objectives. In a dispute with the clients about their accounts, he solved the problems amicably, a trait that I assimilated.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the experience gained from HRMD management is sufficient to get me started in the practical field of accounting. Understanding the procurement process and quick book enables one to appreciate the whole process of accounting. It begins at the point of goods requisition and ends up when the payment is made. However, it takes someone more than being an accountant to achieve in life. The non-accounting skills employed in the firm contributed to performance. They include being a problem solver, goal-oriented, and a team player. The intern feels uncomfortable to work when introduced to a new section of the department because of the learning rate. As soon as the rate of learning increases, he becomes an expert in the field.
