Introduction
The HR department plays a significant role in every organization. The office has a mandate to enhance sustainable corporation and social concern in the development and inclusion of fruitful strategies. Representing the rights of employees and minimizing the violation of their freedom is a key social responsibility played by the HR office. The office also takes care of the employees, by protecting them from risks and dangers at the workplace hence managing the risks and taking responsibility.
Diversity and inclusion
HR pays attention to the general welfare of the employees. It considerers to eliminate gender disparity taking into account that companies that are gender-sensitive perform 33% better than those that are gender bias. It ensures that each member of the workforce is happy and contented with the way an organization operates. The treatment of employees, especially the aspect of equity and equality, also fall under this HR section. Justice and fairness to all is a key element that is overlooked by this department. In every organization across the globe, people who work there are comprised of different individuals who hail from different communities with different backgrounds. The workforce contains members who have different believes and cultures. The HR section has the responsibility to ensure that all the above-listed differences among the members of the workforce are represented well (Fuhl, 2018). Those differences bring about the aspect of diversity while the equal representation and treatment of these people with little similarities bring the aspect of inclusion.
For instance, in a case where employees in an organization are both Christians and Muslims, the organization through the HR office, should have a considerate programmed time-schedule which allows all these people to worship without job insecurity and other threats. Through the influence of the Human resource sector in an organization, there can be a culture week for all the organization employees. On this day, every tribe, every race and every culture will be represented and celebrated by the respective members in the organization workforce. Firms, organizations and companies that operate globally have been practising diversity and inclusion over the years with the influence of HR department.
Risk management
Human resource office has globally improved risk management by installing open communication channels in workplaces so that the workforce members can have a platform to air their views. HR officers are required to carry out face to face meetings with the employees so that every employee gets a chance to pause their complain and feel that there is indeed an impact out of the communication. Implementation of safety policies at the workplaces in every organization globally will enhance safety measures for the employees (Nigam, 2016). Some notices like the slippery floor, be keen can be precautious and reduce the chances of people sliding and falling. If an organization purifies oil to petroleum, some sections can be indicated, only employees wearing masks and helmets are allowed in. Such precautions help employees escape injuries and other risks like inhaling poisonous gas. Providing training of various safety measures can also help in managing risks.
Corporate social responsibility
Social consciousness is also a key element that the HR of any organization will stand to defend and improve on. It entails considering all the diverse cultures of different people working in an organization setting. Some people from diverse communities across the world have beliefs and traditions that guide their daily activities. However, even though they will be required to adjust their beliefs and ways of life to fit in the working environment, some of their cultures need to be respected at all costs (Elaine Cohen, 2010). If for instance, a lady from Nigeria was working for Fly Emirates losses her mother, she will be required to attend the burial because according to the African traditions, some spirits will invade her until the time she makes some sacrifices to appeal the spirits. Such complications only come when the management does not uphold the social consciousness of the employees due to the failure of the HR office to enhance corporate social responsibility. The HR office can improve this sector by carrying out ethical labor activities and practices, facilitating voluntary activities in the organization and setting up a social mission that guides all the employees (Lokhandwala, 2019). These measures will educate the employees, and at the end of it all, the role of instilling social responsibility will be achieved globally in every organization.
HR in the global context
An expatriate worker is an individual that goes outside their mother country to work out of his or her professional qualifications and skills. One can be sent to a different country by the employer in the case the firm that has employed the worker operates globally. For an employee to work internationally, the employer organization's HR should train the expatriate to know the social values that are applicable in the foreign country. The individual should know the business culture of the foreign firm and the foreign host manager. It will minimize the chances of struggling to adapt to the new culture and reduce misunderstandings at the workplace. This training should be done to the employee months or years before the international assignment. The employee should be assigned a mentor who watches his or her moves to ensure he is adapting well (Wilson, 2017). Through the HR office, the worker will be provided with a copy of guidelines for day to day overview to grasp the instructions and mode of operation off-head. It is therefore evident that the HR office of any organization has the mandate of implementing global diversity, risk management and social responsibility.
