Version is a short story written by a Canadian novelist Ginni Genn. She was born in Genni Donati in Trieste. By the year 1960, she moved to Canada by the age of 11years and continued schooling there, though she had started in Italy. Genni grew her career as a poet, writer, and musician in Canada joining many of the writers' associations. Versions were one of the many works she authored. The short story is among other collections of stories published in the Hunger: A Novella and Other Stories. It illuminates two main characters, who are Claire and her older sister Marcia. The title of the story is informed by the fact that different stories were being told about Marcia and her sister portraying how she suspended her outside the window. The story stories form a mythically essential fabric to a family.

The story begins with the presence of two little siblings, Marcia and Claire before their mother joins the scene. The older sibling Marcia holds Claire with legs upside down hanging her on the balcony that was two storeys above the street. Suddenly their mother entered and she was shocked upon seeing what they were doing. She tries to approach the kids silently unlike her usual way because she did not want to frighten them since it could have caused more harm. The two went on, but just on time, the mother was able to grab Claire's legs at exactly the same time that Marcia had let go of them. The mother leans back and rebukes Marcia for being jealous and having had a life full of mistakes, and the story ended. This version of the story is told by Claire who by the time of the vent was too young to remember what had transpired. Marcia had a different version of the story that was almost like the previous one. She admitted that almost everything happened as Claire narrates except that she had let go of her sister’s legs intentionally to let her fall off the street. In her version, she narrates that she held her sister that way so she could have a view of the ground a there was an event that was happening. There was a parade that was moving below that her sister could not see, and therefore, she offered to help. Another version of the story is told by an aunt whose narrating while on a hospital bed. Her story resembles that of Marcia only to differ when she said she left the balcony and never witnessed the rest of the occurrences. Though the aunt confesses that it was not easy taking care of the little one at the time and resents. The father also tells the story with a few alterations. In his version, the baby is dropped, and he catches her before she is harmed.

The stories resemble each other in various aspects; however, they also differ in multiple ways. The author uses different literary devices to enrich her story and give the audience an almost true picture of the events that had transpired when the story was developing. Genni Ginn is known for her popular works that are a literary amusement to her audience.
