As a child, growing up, my attitude was full of gloom and negativity that majorly developed as a strategy to protect myself from disappointment and low self-esteem. However, my mother was an advocate of positive mentality and the power of mindset. My negative mindset changed the day I met children who were victims of war. I could see children holding on to the slightest of hope and putting a smile on their parent's faces. The community was full of people who most of them had experienced torture and some having lost their loved ones and left homeless. My interest in becoming clinical mental health counsellor stems from the point where I decided that as a young girl all I wanted was to support others and work with families in helping them get over challenges by their inner strength. I gained more interest in the field of clinical mental health counselling during the four years of an undergraduate program with psychology as my major.
One of the goals why I want to study clinical mental health counselling, is to gain knowledge and be able to demonstrate mental health counselling expertise. I aim to discover further how to work with people and help them understand why there is a different reaction to a similar situation. My objective in accomplishing this goal is developing foundational knowledge concerning the provision of treatment services and various mental health management frameworks. I also intend to further my research in advanced treatment planning, interventions and issues of diversity.
Additionally, it is my goal to gain knowledge that will help push forward my aim of reshaping mental health through social advocacy. There are still beliefs that position mental health disorder as biological and mostly treated with medical interventions. Through increased research and advocacy practices, I hope to spread the message that it is vital to put into consideration the psychosocial origins of distress such as trauma, inequality and self-esteem in treatment and development of policies. My objective in achieving this goal is to gain the ability to demonstrate emotional sensitivity and precise understanding of fundamental motivations of self.
By studying clinical mental health program, my goal is to graduate as a professional and be able to develop new methods and advanced research mostly on therapy to aid those suffering from various mental disorders. My objective in achieving my goal is to be able to access other people's inner worlds. I want to gain skills in practice that will help people with severe conditions to entrust me with their thoughts and feelings that are not openly shared with other people in their lives. Being a professional clinical health counsellor is an enormous responsibility that I will accomplish and thoroughly enjoy.
Additionally, my goal is to gain expertise and ability to demonstrate clinical mental health counselling dispositions. By studying this course, my objective is also to develop interpersonal respect, professional functioning and professional etiquette while relating to others. I also expect to learn and adapt skills in ethical responsibility in performing duties as a professional counsellor. For instance, I look forward to learning how to work with other professionals in cases of acute or complicated mental health issues that will require more than one expertise.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I am particularly drawn to studying clinical mental health counselling because of the need to make a difference in the world. By learning through this psychology program, I hope to make my dreams come true. I want to help people who are going through what I experienced and what I witnessed others go through during my childhood. My wish is to be a professional who is there for my patients and help them overcome their inner fears.
