Gone are the days when people used devices such as floppy disks and combat disks to store information. Evolution in technology has brought things to the nanoscale, and even further research is taking us away from such a scale. Such progress has made the human mind to recognize the fact that limits do not exist. There has been a wide range of ideas and research on integrating networking and storage, thus an environment-friendly storage technology, cloud. Cloud computing has resulted in a virtual storage, cheap and efficient method of information storage (Velte, Velte 2019). The dawn of 2020 came about with the development of menaces that have affected the globe in destructive ways. Currently, economies are crying since they are on the verge of a collapse as the COVID-19 pandemic predates on various avenues of human norms (Thomson 2020). This essay seeks to review the effectiveness of cloud computing in such a harsh period where the world has merged its efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Businesses and institutions are facing a hard time trying to stay put despite the occurrence of the menace. Traveling is currently on a halt- passengers, together with tourists, can only see a picture of the desired places of visit. As nations try to allocate and enforce all necessary measures needed to curb the vice, technology seems to provide some light for the business world. Cloud computing is becoming inevitable as working from home becomes a priority. The development of technology has become an added advantage since last year brought about the assimilation of fifth-generation internet.
Although not all the world has been able to embrace advanced technology, there is a reliable internet speed that makes the people be able to access the web. Close to 57%, which accounts for 4.33 billion people in the world have access to the internet. Such technology has brought about an advanced way of using integrated systems such as cloud computing.
Over half of the world's population of people are living in the cities. The metropolitan state has effectively resulted in the development of various industries, which has become a source of daily needs. The continuity in the industries harbors the livelihood of these individuals. Although there are effects posed by the virus, there have to be people who will merge forces that would steer these industries.
Cloud computing has provided answers to these needs as people can be able to work remotely. By working remotely, it is expected that there would be a shift in data traffic. Most of the internet service providers had concentrated on providing fast and reliable internet to companies and industrial areas. There should be a change in focus since the data traffic will start appearing around residents. COVID-19 is critically changing all realms of human survival. Every industry is affected, and it seems that cloud computing is becoming a massive beneficiary of the contagion.
Big companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Google have set up data centers that serve as servers for cloud computing. The massive storage facilities have been put in place to avail storage space needed to help the population in the world. An example is the use of the youtube service provided by Google. Religious gatherings are turning on Youtube Livestream as a form of service to the congregation. This is a form of cloud computing as the data centers are used to store the recorded services. Since some governments have put measures such as disbanding gatherings to curb COVID-19, a solution to soldier on in faith has been provided.
The contagion has made governments come up with various methods of availing curbing solutions-one of the most assimilated approaches is the lockdown (Loopstra 2020). Since movement is limited, many individuals opt for newer methods of working from the comfort of their homes. The effective method of connecting people who converge at a common workplace but come from different geographic locations is the use of cloud computing. The service provides accessible information to all people having a common goal and the same decryption procedure.
Also, big data is another aspect of cloud computing that offers essentiality is times of lockdown. Since movement is almost brought to stand still, it is quite a mystery how the flow of information and the storage of big chunks of data will occur. The virtual storage facility, cloud computing, offers the service of big data meaning that the storage capability is almost to infinity (Goli-Malekabadi, Sargolzaei-Javan 2016).
The greenness of cloud computing comes in various ways since the production of storage device aims a sole market. Storage devices would not be in the hands of all people from all spheres of the globe, but instead, the companies offering the service will build extensive storage facilities. Such an effort is green since the disposal of the devices will be limited. Also, most of the companies offering the service are on the objective of using renewable energy to power the facilities.
As information flows limitless with this pandemic, data retrieval needs to be at the core. People expect, and it is sure that there will be an end to the pandemic. The question is, where will the data from the period go? Cloud computing has an answer since it has data retrieval, as no data is lost. The backup technology makes data that seems to be lost come back to the system.
Cloud computing has also been advantageous since it has an integrated artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. Analysis of data flow can help the government gain more information on the condition of people. AI enables the art of finding relevant information and the disclosure of scam messages to be efficient. Systems have become effective in data analytics, thus provides authorities with information that might be worked on and therefore resolve issues within the community. Also, AI enables people working from home and those on the quest to find entertainment to get information that suits their preference (Harfouche et al 2019).
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is evident that cloud computing is becoming a real blessing to the world. The era of a global pandemic is eased, and people seem to maneuver through despite measures that limit human norms. Cloud computing has come up to influence almost all spheres of life of people who are regular internet users. Also, solutions to this pandemic through regular discussions with a medical specialist around the globe has been made possible. The medical staff has to gather efforts and come up with a clear way of curbing this vice. Since travel has been adversely affected, the use of cloud computing has turned out to be a successful methodology. All necessary infrastructure has to be laid, and all people made aware of the use of cloud computing. The internet service providers should also solve the fluctuation inflow of traffic and thus ease the use of technology. With all these in effect, the period of this pandemic will be a historic moment as people would recall using another form of process to stabilize the affected norms.
