Artificial Intelligence (AI) has impacted numerous segments of the economy. AI is the replication of human intellect into machines programmed to mimic humans and behave like a living being. It also refers to any device that demonstrates traits similar to the human mind, such as problem-solving and learning (Russell & Norvig, 2010). Artificial intelligence is based on the principle that human intelligence can be formulated in a way that machines can copy it and execute orders from a wide range of difficulty. The main objectives of artificial intelligence include perception, reasoning, and learning. The AI field has had several crucial milestones that have eased human being's work and made life more comfortable. The artificial intelligence is likely to cause more technological developments in the future, as it has made numerous technologies changes in different sectors of the economy.
A key expected ability of future AI is cyborg technology. This technology will help in the boosting of a human being's memory. Humanity's natural ability in the future will be enhanced via the augmentation of the human brain with a computer. This augmentation will enable individuals with amputated limbs to use artificial limbs controlled by the brain, just like the way average humans beings control their body parts (Woodrow 2015, p.76). It will also reduce the problems that challenge amputees in their day to day life. Cyborg technology is improving to the point of allowing the improvement of hardware and software that are used in the body within short time cycles. The know-how also offers the human body extra computational abilities, thus transforming the human body into an information processing technology. This technology is manageable via artificial thought due to the connection between the technology and the body via a closed-loop feedback system (Woodrow 2015, p.67). Thus, the implementation of AI technology will create a new breed of humanity with varied types of capabilities.
The catastrophe of climate change is currently a concern to many individuals. The utilization of AI technology in dealing with climate change might eliminate this problem in the future. Google is presently funding an energy consumption and global warming study (Donnell 2017). By utilizing machine language in DeepMind Laboratory, Google's data center, energy consumption decreased by forty per cent while utilizing a computer inspired by the human mind (Donnell 2017). Increasing energy efficiency is a method of regulating climate change and enhancing energy conservation, especially in the non-renewable energy sector (Donnell 2017). DeepMind's success will facilitate energy conservation that will help countries balance their energy utilization via the execution of an algorithm that can the desired supply and demand.
Additionally, AI is also important in predicting climatic conditions and weather. The exercise will facilitate the prediction of cyclones and heavy storms, hence giving individuals enough time to prepare themselves and escape the catastrophe (Donnell 2017). There has been positive progress in training a computer program, inspired by the human mind to comprehend patterns of extreme weather and make long-term predictions of the climatic change in the future. The utilization of AI in this sector is saving human beings from difficult tasks of foreseeing the interaction between global trends and local conditions, thereby giving an accurate outcome of an extreme weather occurrence across the world (Donnell 2017). With the application of thorough research in AI and climate change, it will be possible to realize a reduced emission environment. Thus, technology will rescue human beings from the grave effects of environmental pollution and climate change.
AI has also dominated homes and industries through the use of robots. The main objective of robot creation is to improve work efficiency within a short duration while maintaining reliability. Robots currently exist in science, manufacturing, surgery, and postal services, among other production sectors (Bundy 2017, p.45). Further utilization of AI technology in robotics will create immense changes in industries and homes. Car manufacturing industries, such as BMW and Toyota, are currently using robots to work hand in hand with humans. A Japanese firm has also succeeded in creating robots programmed to perceive their emotion that matches human emotion and can read. These machines are intended to be emotionally sociable with humans hence keeping them company. The robotic future is sophisticated, considering that the application of AI technology advances daily. AI technology will also help humans in the prevention and curing of diseases in the future. Moreover, the AlphaGo computer can produce complicated recipes for very sophisticated chemical compounds needed to tackle diseases (Segler et al., 2018, p.606). This capability will help in the cure and elimination of diseases as well as disease-causing pathos, thereby enabling humans to increase their life expectancy. Thus, are robots are slowly replacing human beings in the manufacturing sector.
Deep learning approaches and machine learning has led to the development of virtual assistants such as Alexa and Siri. These assistants help individuals to drive their cars or receive relevant recommendations via Netflix (Woodrow 2015, p.66). With such advancing technology and the increase in computation power, self-driving vehicles that are currently hands-off type will get to the steering wheel optional class (J3016B, 2018). This capacity will significantly reduce traffic jams and car accidents (Bojarski et al., 2015). When the robots attain social computing and cognitive abilities like human beings, the Graphical User Interface (GUI) will be replaced with Conversation User Interfaces (CUI) (Bojarski et al., 2015). The idea will enable human beings to have robots for psychological assistance.
Nevertheless, there is a possibility that AI will be used for malicious interest in the future. For instance, the AI used in film production projects such as Lyrebird may be used to generate fake news or manipulate a political scene, thereby causing chaos (Vincent 2017). Besides, the same technology used to cure diseases and formulate antidotes may be used to produce chemical weapons and generate lethal viruses. Therefore, global organizations should take precautions by setting rules and ethics in this discipline to ensure that AI is used to benefit humanity. Besides, a future with robots may also be devastating morally and ethically. Recently, a Spanish scientist modeled and created a sex doll and robot, named Samantha, capable of fulfilling a man's sexual needs ("Draft Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI," 2018). Based on ethics, this robot erodes the cultures of several societies across the globe that look up to marriages for sexual needs. AI may also be utilized in the manufacture of illegal weapons to be used in wars and unlawful activities (Joh 2017). Thus, the technology may be used by various groups for fraudulent activities, thus harming innocent individuals.
Overall, AI's has played a significant role in providing services that have eased individuals' lives. With the numerous benefit that AI has already brought into society, it is apparent that its future is quite promising. Different sectors such as health, transport, mining, communication, and weather study have felt received numerous benefits of AI. With adherence to appropriate rules, limitations, and procedures, human beings are optimistic about the benefits that AI will bring. Companies should formulate the ground rules for the future utilization of AI. Although technology has its share of challenges, such as being misused by criminals for flatulent activities, the technology has improved work efficiency and maintained reliability. Thus, individuals and companies should be prepared to embrace the impacts of artificial intelligence as it has brought numerous positive changes.
