Introduction
Employees serve as one of the most vital organizational human resources that play a crucial role in the achievement of their desired goals and objectives. Employees ensure that they perform their tasks exemplarily to help the company attain operational sustainability while meeting the evolving needs of its customers. As a result, it is critical for organizational management, comprising of human resource (HR) directors, chief executive officers (CEO), and the chairpersons of the board, to take appropriate steps to cater to their needs. Employee insurance remains one of the most critical requirements that every organizational leadership must pursue to ensure employee safety. However, it is crucial to identify the best insurance brokerage firm to effectively cater to the evolving needs and changing demands of employees in contemporary job markets. Therefore, I strongly agree with most of my classmates' opinions on the need of the company in question choosing a more substantial, national insurance brokerage firm as opposed to a local, small scale company. Indeed, a national broker operating on a large scale basis has extensive experience in dealing with large companies, such as the firm formed through the merging process, as presented in the case study. The national broker also attracts and employs highly talented insurers with adequate competence in terms of skills, knowledge, and experience needed to handle different risks and challenges that may face employees of large scale business. Therefore, our company should prefer going for a large national insurance firm over the local one.
Personal Response to the HR Director's Decision
The company's HR director decided to choose the small scale, local insurance broker over the national one. I strongly disagree with this decision. There are various critical aspects that the HR director needed to consider concerning the responses given by a plethora of my classmates who supported the need for the company to go for a national insurance broker. For instance, I felt that the HR director's focus should be on getting the best deal for the employees. As a result, the national broker could offer the best insurance services because of its experience and areas served. However, I understood and respected the decision taken by the HR director to give the local insurance broker a chance. There could be other crucial factors, such as better contact terms and low cost of insurance, that motivated the HR director to take this decision despite not mentioning. However, there could be other potential outcomes if the HR director decided differently. For instance, the company could enjoy working with a highly experienced team of insurers provided by the national broker, enjoy lowered premiums, and protect its employees from multiple risks not covered by the local broker. However, the ethical ramifications behind the HR director's decision are that she made the correct choice to give the local broker an opportunity to prove that they could effectively cater to the insurance needs of her company's employees. Also, choosing a smaller broker allowed the organization to receive overwhelming attention due to having a focus on a single business and the ability to fix the associated problems quickly.
