Emotions are undeniably play fundamental aspects in the human experience. Fear, happiness, anger, love are concepts which we are all familiar to. However, their subjective experience varies from one person to another. Emotional triggers are what bring about the emotions and response to them. These triggers can be found at personal or professional settings. Some of my triggers at personal settings include not being able to meet my goals as set, fear and finding out that someone lied to me. At professional setting they include anger, acceptance and tight deadlines. The anger can be brought about by being told to work overtime or be forced on task which are to mine.
I tend to naturally react to these triggers differently depending on my psychological condition. They sometimes jeopardize my beliefs and views. Sometimes I accept to work overtime and would not react angrily while on other cases the reaction is anger especially when it is not convenient. The things which contradict my views, feelings or belief make me react angrily. At personal settings, I would embrace the emotions and see how to deal with them. The emotional triggers normally lie behind the behaviors we dread the most. However, the triggers can sometime lead to positive behaviors such as being more careful and responsible.
Some of the ways that I deal with these triggers is by accepting the responsibility of my reactions and knowing how well do deal with them. Thereafter I would choose what I want to do and feel about different situations and work on shifting my emotional state actively. Mindfulness is the increasing of self-awareness time after time and in every moment without judgement and breaking down. The best way of achieving this is by the practice of meditation. This constant practice also helps in sharpening the ability to brush thoughts slightly out of the mind by noting and having conscience of a feeling but not being able to react to it.
The term emotion is not so easy to define. That is to say that everyone knows their own ways of defining emotions until they are asked to. Everyone uses this term and seem to readily understand what it means in their own experience and how they relate to it. Psychology has turned itself to study negative emotions such as stress and anxiety for many years. These negative emotions are normally interesting since they lead to, or may even be the clue to psychological disorders. However, the study of the positive emotions is also similarly fascinating notwithstanding the numerous commo- sense misconceptions which it has been associated with it (Mayer, 2018). Most people tend to think that positive emotions are simple as they are short-lived and cannot have the desired long-term impact someone may wish. It should consequently be noted that the positive emotions which lead to various positive affective experiences may be one of the factors which can contribute to a longer-lasting effect on personal development and growth. Positive psychology which is brought about by positive emotions affect emotional response in that it allows the individual to view the world in a different manner and perspective. The people who possess positive intelligence tend to make better life decisions as their views are mostly bound to make them happier than their counterparts.
On the other hand, emotional intelligence is the ability of managing and identifying personal emotions and that of others. It involves skills such as ability to manage both the positive and negative emotions which includes cheering or calming other people while regulating own emotions; the ability of harnessing emotions and also to apply them when tasks of problem-solving and critical thinking are needed; and emotional awareness. Emotional intelligence has various effect on the emotional response of people. The responses are different for each individual depending on how one has learnt to manage and deal with their emotions (Paul, 2018). One need to be emotionally intelligent by being cautious of their win states of emotion and be able to manage them. It is easy to identify how sensitivity to emotional signal within the social environment can make one a better or worse parent, leader, friend or even romantic partner.
Environmental factors that lead to the emotional response
Any normal human being would naturally know that emotional responses are directly or indirectly affected by environmental factors. These factors also play significant roles in emotional regulation which is the ability of responding and managing emotional response (Colaianni, 2007). This seemingly complex process consists of many interactive components. For example, someone may be running late for meeting which is career decisive or very important but upon reaching the bus station they find that they just missed. People will react differently to such a situation. One person may become so stressed of that while another may just sigh with "I will wait for the next one." The environment can be physical, family, psychological or even personal. It all depends with the psychological health of the nervous system and how flexible it is to adapting to the environmental pressures (Petitta, Hartel, Ashkanasy & Zerbe, 2011). When there is a nervous breakdown in the body, it should do in such a way that it will enhance itself to return to the normal state. The happiness of most people in work places depend with the environment which is presented to them.
One of the ways in which the stressful situations can be mitigated is by the application of mindful behaviors. It also involves paying attention to thins which stress us in such a way that it trains someone to be able to take control of the difficult situations and other be able to make wise decisions in day-to-day activities. This mindfulness behavior can be practiced anywhere as it only needs meditation, thus it should be practiced regularly. Various research results have concluded that meditation and mindfulness can lessen the effects of anxiety, depression, stress and related behaviors such as low moods, poor concentration and insomnia in some people (Benson & Klipper, 2009). Some of the known benefits of mindfulness are higher satisfaction in relationships, heighten self-observation ability, increased cognitive ability, lower emotional reactivity, enhanced focus, improved working memory, negative emotions decrease, reduced worry and most importantly reduced stress. Another mindful behavior that people need to nurture being to take time out. This enable them to relax and reevaluate the thins at hand. They take responsibility on the things they do and are able to strict balance of their daily activities. It helps in reducing the stress levels. It is okay to prioritize self-care.
