Leaders should demonstrate service through commitment to their duties which extend their self-interests and is for the more significant cause. Wisdom is also essential in leadership where leaders should show their broad understanding of human dynamics. A sense of humility is also a requirement in the aspects of dignity and awareness of an individual's limitations. The importance of these leadership values is that they help to ensure that a leader adheres to their promises and the expectations of the public. The values do inform the application of leadership qualities which turn out to be the activation of competencies of leadership where they are learned, developed and also practiced.
Barriers to An Effective Leader In The Current Political Climate
The current political climate presents many obstacles to effective leadership. There is no culture for positive engagement of the participants because they face instances of general conflict, a culture that is patrimonial and the leadership is authoritarian. The political climate provides a base for these aspects to occur hence there is no room for effective leadership. There is a lack of capacity and expertise because of the weak capacity building programs for leaders, and there is also poor planning on the part of leadership. Thus, the individuals end up lagging behind since they lack adequate knowledge for change and better roles to play. Incidences of the suspension of party mechanisms for discussion and modification is also a barrier especially in political parties' elections and conferences. Hence, they do not show adequate solutions for improvements in the engagement of the leaders for better growth. Financial resources and security are also barriers to effective leadership.
