Economic empowerment and employment is an issue that every millennial is dealing with all over the world. The problem is becoming more significant every day because so many young people are getting educated to higher levels but once they are out, they are faced with a dilemma on what to do with the education that they receive. I have had a problem in choosing a career that will not only suit my passion but also one that will help me become marketable once I complete my studies. In this essay, I will give my opinion on the problem of employment and economic empowerment that the young people face based on research.

Why are so many millennials unemployed? This is always the top story of every newspaper in almost all the countries in the world. I have also realized that being a massive crisis, the politicians take advantage of this problem for their campaigns making promises to offer jobs to the young people. The shocking reality is that even for the nations that are believed to be economically developed thousands of millennials remain unemployed for an extended period. I find it difficult to blame the government because there are other endorsements that it offers to empower them economically such as giving them funds to start businesses. However, the programs could be communicated inefficiently, or the millennials have no interest in starting something by themselves.

We are in a world where one needs to have a minimum experience of five years for them to secure a job. Sometimes the students could be unrealistic of the kind of situation they would like to have; for instance, when one wants a managerial position yet, they have not worked at a place where they had enough experience on how to handle administrative tasks. Those who get lucky begin with mediocre and low paying jobs with the hope of receiving a promotion until they get to the position that they wanted after completing school. I find this unrealistic because the possibilities are narrow and this could take many years before one makes such a huge accomplishment.

In my opinion, a job is not a means to an end, it is just one of the ways that help people succeed in life. If you look at people such as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, the little education they had, enabled them to come up with their unique ideas that developed into huge businesses. Young people should realize that education is an eye-opener; it allows them to be creative and innovative. Thus, this is one of the reasons why I will choose information technology in my higher level of education because it is my passion and it also presents many opportunities due to the rapid advancement of technology.Conclusion

The modern workplace requires the millennials to gain experience so that they can replace the positions of the older generation. However, the youths should not have high expectations because of the world id in a crisis especially on the issues of employment. I would also blame the education system especially at the tertiary level which does not equip the millennials with skills such as critical thinking and proper interpersonal communication. From the insights derived in the essay, it is evident that the young people should have an open mindset to find all ways possible to ensure that they are economically empowered.
