Drug use has widely been regarded to be the best answer for any human health-related ailments and symptoms. Spontaneous reports of drug use indicate that drugs have got a wide-ranging of both short and long-term, direct and indirect health effects (Abadinsky, 2018). However, the results often rely on certain drugs taken, a person's health status as well as the way the drugs are being considered. Drug abuse, on the other hand, involves the compulsive use of drug substances by people leading to severe psychological damage and physical harm. For instance, certain drugs such as hallucinogens are used to help modify/loosen the cognitive, sensory serves and provide access to ordinary sense and state of awareness. However, when used in excess, hallucinogens can eventually lead to longer, more intense "trip" episodes which are a serious medical issue that can cause delusions and paranoia as a reaction to LSD (Abadinsky, 2018).
Other drug substances such as heroin can likewise cause serious medical issues in a human body. As a narcotic depressant naturally derived from dopamine opium, heroin depresses the human respiratory centers such as brain when used to inhibit the release of stress-related hormones and their neurotransmitters. However, high levels of dopamine in the human body can result in respiratory arrest and death for people who use opiates over long periods. Flakka is a type of synthetic cathinone drug that can cause hyperstimulation syndrome in women as well as episodes of mania and self-inflicted violence. Flakka also causes a heart attack. Slavia is another drug that causes long-term damage to the brain when consumed in their pure form (NIDA, 2017).
Whereas there are standard and side effects when taking ketamine, the most common intoxication effects of abusing ketamine are lower urinary symptoms which may cause a permanent impact on the human body (Villines, 2017). Drugs such as alcohol, ketamine, and benzodiazepines that often impairs a person's judgment can be associated with date rape instances. However, medical researchers suggest some strategies that one can opt for to protect themselves from date rape. They include not accepting a drink from a stranger or leaving an open drink unattended to and of a cause, adopting the "buddy system" when going out for free drinks (Villines, 2017). Lastly, the use of marijuana has the following pros: relieves pressure among glaucoma patients and helps to control nausea and vomiting for cancer chemotherapy patients while the cons are a short-term memory, impaired learning and short reaction time.
