Introduction
After viewing the video, TED Talk by Ricardo Fernandez, it is evident that geographic diversity has an impact on employees, particularly in communication. Boundaries between nations usually make the world to have the same market place (Fernandez, 2017). In most cases, economies and organizations are interlinked to build global teams to be connected geographically and culturally. Therefore, even though success lies in an efficient, creative and costs active environment, communication between workers is also affected. It is essential, accordingly, that every team members adjust to the dynamics and synergy of various cultures. Shared values, trust, sense of urgency, common values and proper communication are vital keys for embracing the team together. The essay will elaborate more on why geographic diversity creates communication challenges in the workplace and the solution to the problem.
One way geographic diversity impacts team verbal and non-verbal communication is through sophisticated and modern technology. Even though the team members have similar objectives, complementary skills and common goals the majority of them develop differences. Several ways can be used to solve these challenges (Wong & Matthews, 2018). One way is through people management. In most cases, people and interpersonal management have the assumption that proper management skills are done through training (Afifi, 2014). When proper training is conducted, then the glitches of smooth coordination will embrace thus reducing all miscommunications and misunderstandings.
Ricardo Fernandez also talked about geographical diversity and how it affects communication (Fernandez, 2017). The phrase 'out of sight out of mind' usually occurs in workplaces because of the time zone differences and distance, and this leads to trust and communication issues. Such challenges, in this case, are managed by rotating the workdays and work hours to establish the no-communication days stronger among the team members.
Conclusion
Communication is one vital factor that should be embraced every day in workplaces. The video clearly shows how bad it can be when people working together don't understand each other. In other words, even though success lies in an efficient, creative, and costs active environment, communication between workers is also affected. Therefore, when proper training is conducted, then the glitches of smooth coordination will embrace thus reducing all miscommunications and misunderstandings.
