Civil society is mostly nongovernmental organizations that always aim at looking at citizens issues and working in their interest. Civil society comprises both private and family sphere as well. What makes civil society global is their scope of operations; some have their activities carried out beyond borders and beyond the rich of governments. The nongovernmental organizations make up the civil society. It is known to be the third field in the current society. The government is not a civil society at all. Civil society is a term that separates itself from the other governed organizations. The civil society aims at standing on its own feet in carrying out its activities without the help of the government.
The term civil earn it the credit to be termed as a public society. Civil society can either be for-profit or non-profit. The main aim of the organization is to involve the citizens in their activities. Every non-political organization is termed as a civil society. Civil society is however demographically limited (Kaldor, 2003). Societies that makes up the civil society includes labor unions, churches, nonprofit organizations and other service agencies that have very little in return (Rodrik, 2011). Examples of civil societies are women right groups that aim at benefiting women. The women right groups aim at protecting women from harm and harassment.
Governance is the process of governing or decision-making from any formal or informal organization. These may include the government, market, institutions, and companies. Governance can be done through the power given to particular person or rules set and should be followed carefully. Governance is more of decision making, and the decision is later put in place or implemented. The government is a body that is supposed to administer public policies and execute power through individual institutions. It makes it different from governance. Some types of government are the dictatorship and democratic state.
Civil society has many roles to play which are very different to the government. Social cohesion is among the primary duties of the civil society. Protection of human rights is a role played by civil society especially when it comes to children the civil society has the character fighting on their behalf to defend them. Financial institutions have the part of service delivery to their customers in times of need. The actions will monitor peace building in the society and the nation as a whole. The government has many roles to play in the society. These roles are well listed in United States constitution. The primary role of the government is to make a perfect union and promote the general welfare of the society. The government is expected to fix rules to be followed and follow them to the letter (Steger, 2003). The government is expected to have a particular system of controlling a state and form a perfect union. The government has the duty of establishing justice and secures blessings of liberty. Justice is attained through fair distribution of resources and offering aids to the less fortunate in the society.
According to Browns the world have gone wrong through massive resistance. Browns emphasis was on learning institutions. The world has so much resistance especially in the sectors of education where the people of America have been divided into different classes. It went wrong back in 1950 to 1954 when children are denied the opportunity to equal learning on the issue of not giving each child equal terms. Things went wrong when the black people were separated with the whites. There were schools for the black who served as catalyst for modern education and others for the white
Brown is very right in her evaluation. Her energy and efforts were channeled in shaping up the lives of children through education. She evaluates the need for education the society. The civil society allows every child to undertake education while still young to be in a position of succeeding later in life. Browns evaluation is viable and also legitimate. It is because the society has the duty of distributing equal chances to the people and this makes it useful for long.
Al-Qaeda doesn't count as part of civil society according to people, but in the real sense, this is a civil society that funds itself. It is a group that is not supported by the government in America, and they find it illegal. Occupy movement too is part of civil society in the United States and gets help from different organizations and the government to provide services to the citizens (Steger, 2003).
The Muslim brothers who are from Qatar are chased from there by a civil society group that used wrong ways to acquire funds. Some civil society groups are illegal, and the government tries their very best to ban them from existence. The Freedom House National Democratic and the National Republic Institute are civil societies funded by the United States government because these institutions play a vital role in bringing together different people.
To sum up, Rodrick Trilemma issues were more into governance. He quoted that civil society main aim should be based on the future of democratic restructuring and exploring the future. I agree that the future of any civil society lies in the way the people governing it view future integration options. Economic and social reconstruction is very necessary which is accompanied by strong democratic leadership. Governance is a step by step elevation where strict measures are to be taken whenever making a decision. Decision making is a crucial issue in any government. Governance is a responsibility that takes the time to implement. The people responsible for management have a rough time in making decisions that face a lot of impossibilities before succeeding.
