Introduction
Mass media presents a variety of audiovisual and written products to their consumers, and they do all they can to ensure that these consumers can identify with the product. The closer a product is to the natural existence of humanity, the more relevant it is to them. The refined mass media productions presented undergo a series of rejections, corrections and changes before they debut. Reality products present a scenario of an existing issue within the prospective society, and before this society can be presented with a problem they fully conform to, the producers and characters must ensure that they are as original as possible. In the reality TV show, The Survivor, the characters set off to a natural environment and expose themselves to the mediaeval life of not having refrigerators, hair products or just a comfortable bed to lie on. They exhibit emotions, disappointments and losses as some go home for failing. The expression of these emotions can be through offensive words, but these words are blocked to suit the audience.
The production of the series utilizes distinct character types, camera angles, symbols, costumes, lighting, music among other effects to add up to the characters and set-ups. Camera angles vary depending on the message they want to emphasize, or the new information they want to decode to the audience. When the fish are missing, the camera takes us to the camp, and where the fish have been thrown to enable us to connect the puzzle. The characters occupy the entire spectrum of morality and ethics, and this conveniently presents a world within the small set-up. The sound effects and the background music signal to the viewer when to be anxious, relaxed, expectant or amazed, and this somehow directs the production.
The media industry is just like any other production company that invest where they anticipate to gain from. Survivor is a reality television series that subject the characters to adverse conditions and offers a million dollar prize to the one who will be enduring, smart and the last man standing. The castaway television productions cash in the investment as they extrapolate an even more substantial amount in return after the airing of the series. Like any business, garbage in is garbage out, and to have a guarantee that they will attain maximum profit from it, these media put in all they have, be it monetary, skills, personnel and equipment. The storyline for the productions is skilfully and creatively grafted to attract and maintain their audience attention and interest. Most media houses depend on advertisement to get income, and they, in turn, invest in selling out their image to the viewers to attract more advertisers. When the series ends, the producers allow the audience to take a peek at what they can expect next, and the suspense created makes them count down hours to the next episode.
By emulating the natural form of existence, media productions touch on the issues directly associated with the audiences. There is an emphasis on traditions, cultures, morality and responsibilities. In a surprise scene where the characters families, friends or lovers appear, Jon learns of the death of his grandmother. The day's elimination challenge commences, and at the end, the character whose friend or family still stands will spend 24 hours with them. It finally gets to Jon's buddy, and Trish's husband and Trish throw the competition up for Jon to enable him to come to terms with the grandma's death. The series emulates ancient tradition and puts the characters in Balboa tribes subjects them to the council and other traditional functions.
Conclusion
The media is like cookery. It prepares a production, airs it to the viewers and allows them to chew on it and give their varied reactions and comments. These eliminations most definitely stirred up preferences from audiences as they sided with different characters depending on their races, nationality, personality, and physique or love at first sight. With episode eliminations, the viewer has to take a side at the beginning and cross their fingers hoping for a favourable outcome.
