In my analysis of the Lena Dunham's book, "Not that kind of a girl" I adopted a working thesis which stated that "all too often our culture tells young women their voices do not matter or deserve to be heard." Based on the book, the working thesis is ideal as Dunham tries to show how women are deemed in the society and how some people view them as insignificant and unworthy to air their grievances. The thesis statement is clear and precise, and it allows the reader can be able to grasp what the paper is all about even before they go any further into the support paragraphs. However, having established the claim, the reader should expect a detailed explanation of the society systematically denies young women opportunity to speak for themselves. Throughout the analysis, the support paragraphs offer a glimpse of how Dunham experiences this problem and how she helps overcomes the challenges thus inspiring other marginalized women to follow suit.

The determination of the most important topic in the essay was based on a detailed reading and trying to understand what the author was trying to accomplish in her work. The type of audience who were targeted by the author in her work also gave vital clues on the most critical topic of the essay. Therefore the "the audacity of voice" came after deliberating and close analysis of the essay collection. By the Dunham's character Hannah in the series girls, indicating to her parents that "I may be the voice of the generation" forms a pivotal statement in the review. Her audacity to make such bold claims shows that she is courageous and determined to make a difference by speaking out her experiences, struggles and challenges to all women whose voices have been suppressed. The reader would readily understand the topic's importance without requiring my explanation. The term audacity as known by scholars is used to mean a situation that requires bravely and departure from the social norms. Therefore the "audacity of voice" is easy to understand since it needs the women to depart from the traditional pattern of being suppressed and voice their opinions, concerns and suggestions on various topics.

I critically analyzed and responded to Lena Dunham work where I sought to explore what she had written about women overcoming the barriers imposed on them by a male-dominated society. Despite being a lot of materials to read and filter the most important information to share with the readers and make it easier to understand without necessitating my explanation. I was able to screen what would be relevant and clear-cut to every reader who had a chance to go through my analysis. Mostly in my review, the focus mostly bent towards how Dunham inspires people through her stories and those of other women who have managed to overcome the odd.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I tried to tackle the review from an angle where I looked at how Dunham portrays her vulnerabilities and expression of love and loving people with whom she interacted. Despite that, my analysis tried to cover how family and body image are inextricably linked with her and how they shape up her courage and give her the audacity to speak on behalf of other women. All this supports the thesis statement that I had selected and thus makes it easy for the reader to understand without my need to explain the contents.
