The video by Min Kim entitled "Whoever Controls the Media, the Images, Controls the Culture" analyzes how the media companies use images to manipulate people and to ensure that they continue following and watching whatever they desire people to see. People underestimate the complex relations they have with the media and how much it influences how they perceive the world. People from different cultures interpret an image differently. The media companies for a long have stopped being a medium of passing across important information to a platform where images are used to feed people's emotional needs. The media is being used to evoke aggression, passion and help people to become engaged. Even though the media has allowed people to learn more about things happening in other areas that would have otherwise been impossible, it has exploited the position to make people have a reduced point of view. Therefore, people are unable to see reality with the current media content. Direct experience is, therefore, the most essential experience people get to experience the reality on the ground.

The video relates to chapter 1 because it explains how people have increased their consumption of the media. It also describes how the media can affect our sense of reality. According to chapter 1 is that the media determines what people think of themselves, their cultures and their place in society. According to Kim (2017) is that people tend exploit the emotional vulnerabilities of people and therefore manipulate the direct experiences to make people continue watching and following events. Media literacy, therefore, involves understanding how modern media works since media companies continue to implement strategies that are meant to ensure they survive in a highly competitive environment (Chapter 1). This idea is supported by Kim who states that direct experiences to the events are essential because mostly the media limits the point of view of consumers.

The video by Kim (2017) also indicates that the media will continue devising new methods to keep consumers hooked. This relates to what chapter reveals that the media is an evolving ecosystem that will continue to advance its tactics to meet its goals in society. Today technology has advanced to a great extent because of new inventions that help people get valuable products that simplify their lives. However, dependence on these technologies has changed the culture of human beings as people are now connected through many platforms (Chapter 1 pg. 3). Understanding how the media has changed through the years can help in predicting what will occur in the future.

The video is crucial as it helps to educate people on how the media can change who they are, how they think and perceive life in general. Further, it informs people of how the media manipulates information to satisfy their emotional needs. Therefore, the media has its advantages and disadvantages because it is capable of informing and at the same time relating information in a skewed manner. The video is valuable as it helps to inform people to consume the media with skepticism because the images are not always accurate. The situation is not expected to change in the future since companies desire to excel and survive in the market, and therefore people ought to seek direct experiences of what is happening in the world because they are guaranteed to find the truth.
