The overall topic of the article is about the growth of various businesses regarding conscious capitalism. Conscious capitalism gets construed as a way of thinking about business and capitalism which reflects what people are in the human journey. It also considers the world's state currently as well as recognizing the innate business potential to impact positively on the world with its ability to harness human, financial and intellectual resources (Mccobin, & Shaich, 2018). Moreover, conscious capitalists often run their businesses having great purposes in mind because they recognize their stakeholders and seek acceptable solutions as they want to benefit their stakeholders.
However, skeptics might question anyone who wishes to be a conscious capitalist. Therefore, people should have in mind that being a value-based organization or having a social responsibility in the organization does not imply becoming a non-profit. But it is always about how the organization spends its profit and where the value is provided. Nevertheless, embracing conscious capitalism brings a focus to delivering value to many organization's partners, the community surrounding it as well as the industry as a whole (O'Hara, 2018).
According to many organizations, the measurement of success to provide value is often about providing for the employees culturally, financially, reaching outside of the company and serving the greater community. However, some organizations find serving the broader community difficult and thus, conscious capitalism benefiting them, in the long run, is also very tough. Additionally, with this type of capitalism, organizations need to focus on their investments and efforts that are in the culture of the company. Each organization must have a culture which either happens by decision or default. When a group of people is drawn together, some norms will ultimately emerge from the group which creates a culture (Mccobin, & Shaich, 2018). And, the kernel of a company's culture is always majorly about its employers and employees as well as values that these people live out on every day in the life.
I agree with conscious capitalism contributing to the growth of businesses because since some organizations embraced it, their goals of making a difference in various ways have remained steadfast, and the methods of accomplishing things have been altered through the years for its success. The organizations have been able to make conscious decisions on where to direct their resources and energy which enhances efficiency and effectiveness (O'Hara, 2018).
Moreover, according to the article, conscious capitalism has larger positive impacts on the local communities as in some cases, the fundraisers of these organizations benefit many schools and the local groups for a better life. They often focus on issues to do with the security of food and provide donations to numerous homeless and non-profit shelters as well as increasing their appeal to the potential associates and their clients (Mccobin, & Shaich, 2018).
Thus, with conscious capitalism, more organizations have managed to follow the same path, waving the flag of conscious capitalism to address heavy social issues that may affect the general population as well as evolving paths of finding solutions to some problems. For instance, as depicted in the article, after an incident where two blacks were arrested at a store in Philadelphia, Starbucks company paused its business functions and had all of its workers to look into the issue via a racial bias training (O'Hara, 2018). However, the practice was not the best, and neither was it to end or makes solutions to all the problems to do with race in the society, but the step was taken in the right direction. Therefore, more businesses should fight to be self-reflective and embrace the role of leadership in tackling difficult issues or situations.
Also, the businesses should be applauded for trying to solve thorny social issues that nobody can attempt, be commended for changing and evolving their strategies when issues and time are altered for it to be termed as conscious capitalism or a good business sense having a greater function in mind (Mccobin, & Shaich, 2018).
As depicted in the article, in my opinion, the best way of becoming more intentional with the culture of the company is by starting with any ideas that one thinks might benefit all the employees and impact positively on their lives - for instance, creating a need for meetups and user groups of having space to come together in the available training rooms to support the resources of the community that are available and sufficient. Thus, with conscious capitalism, the best way of growing one's business is by starting to grow oneself as people or employees often want to follow real leaders who are factual about their needs to tackle new ideas and things and pursue further growth.
When there are constant drive and passion emanating from the top, it might be impossible for it not to impact to be felt down the organization. Nonetheless, through changing the mindset about various things, many business personnel can change the way they act and feel by acting as conscious leaders. They can review materials that generate good incomes and profits to the organization which pushes them to search for new ways of reaching the next level (O'Hara, 2018).
