From the article 'Tapping in the World's Innovation Hotspot' it is apparent the global struggle by nations to prioritize innovation. Consequently, globalization has been introduced and has provided regulatory relief, skills, capital, and a market for products. The article recommends that a company should consider the suitability of the various innovation models before establishing their research centers or businesses premises. It is advisable for an insightful organization to integrate the various elements of the different innovation models to increase the probabilities of success in its business.
John Kao elaborates on the working mechanism of the Focused Factory method whereby he explains the significance of concentrating manufacturing effort on the organization's available resources. The Focused Factory model is comprised of a combination of concise strategic intent, skills and the required infrastructure to solve strenuous obstacles facing the organization. Countries such as Singapore and Denmark have been seen to adopt the model in their economies. Singapore, for instance, has been seen to have focused more on its scientific research by allocating huge funding towards the R&D projects in life sciences amongst others. The move to concentrate solely on the life sciences is further proven by the creation of the Biopolis medical research center in 2003.
The Brute Force model entails the combination of huge proportions of capital and labor resources by countries to attain the required level of innovation. The model has been greatly embraced by China, Brazil and India. China has invested in its education sector specifically institutions of higher learning in a bid to become a fully innovation-driven country by the year 2020 as per its innovation plans. The country which is presently the world's major source of out-sourced manufacturing has continuously funded 10 of the leading universities in the country to raise the status and quality of its education and provide a large number of specialists in the country. The influx of graduates in the Chinese economy has contributed to the dominance of the country's locomotive industry in the world.
The Hollyworld model involves designing a more suited environment that will motivate innovation in the country. The model insinuates that the collection of many qualified entrepreneurs in one location is advantageous in making the economy attractive to investors. The concentration of educated individuals in one region diversifies the country encouraging the development of urban centers. Apart from diversity, the model has also contributed to transition of countries such as India from being the last in line in terms of innovation to the epicenter of innovation. India currently manages the talent pools of other nations globally as a means to fully achieve innovation in its economy. Singapore also uses the Hollyworld model in its operations.
The last model explained by the article is the Large-Scale Ecosystems which combines research institutions, funding bodies, stewardship mechanisms and structures of the business. In summary Large-Scale Ecosystems integrates the other three models into one ultimate model for more efficient results. Several countries including Finland have found the model to be satisfactory in achieving innovation. Thus nations globally have begun embracing innovation while applying various models taking into consideration the various resources. Innovation is the driving force behind diversity and successful economic activities. With the rapidly growing technology, the world is better equipped to embrace and accommodate innovation. Innovation has transformed the American dream into the global dream as various nations rise to the occasion with dominating economic activities. The world is literally more conveniently placed with the adoption of innovation.
