Introduction
Various disagreements disrupt the flow of work. Conflict refers to a situation where people perceive a threat either physically or emotionally courtesy of ideological or difference in interests between two or more people. On the other hand, conflict resolution is the ability of a person arbitrarily trying to develop a solution to the conflict to restore peace in the workplace among the workers.
Conflicts are unavoidable despite their cause, and it is the responsibility of the human resource managers to provide solutions because not only do conflict adversely affect the cohesion of the workers, but they also produce ripples on how the employees and the outside world views the company (Ceplenski, 2013). Companies that have a human resource department that is actively knowledgeable and consider the employees’ welfare have a workplace with reduced conflicts.
Current Scenario and the Problem
With globalization, diversification at the workplace in many organizations has been a regular thing where the human resource department selects and recruits’ people from different backgrounds. The availability of different people in the workplace implies that there are many conflicts that will arise due to ideological differences. People from diverse backgrounds have different cultures with different beliefs that, if not well understood by those in their immediate surroundings in the workplace, might result in conflicts. The problem with a diversified workforce is the prevalence and the frequency of conflict development. The above is attributed to the lack of understanding of the individuals or groups and appreciation of the diverse backgrounds that others come from. They end up having different expectations that are not fulfilled hence disagreeing with others.
How to Fix Conflicts
There are several ways that the human resource department in an organization can resolve and reduce employees’ conflicts. However, they should first understand the employees by maintaining a closer interaction with them; this way, they will manage differences. Secondly, they will have to locate the points accurately, causing tension in the workplace among the works (Jones, 2020). The above is looking at the causes of conflicts within the workplace, which reduced employee morale, lack of informal groups, the reluctance of management to involve employees in decision making or considering their opinions, or poor compensation packages.
Conflicts at the workplace can be fixed by the involvement of employees in decision making processes and listening and considering their opinions. The above could be achieved through suggestion boxes or allowing for open door consultation and approaches where employees can present their grievances directly to the managers. The department should also enable employees to create informal groups among them. The groups will facilitate the emergency of leaders that will have the ability to solve some of the minor internal conflicts affecting the members instead of advancing them to the department managers.
Laws Guiding Conflict Resolution
Some of the legislations that guide human resource actions during conflict resolution include the taking of preventive measures. Some of the measures taken include regular staff training and development. There is also the proper definition of job roles and tasks for each individual. The establishment of the cause of conflict is another law. It should be articulately carried out by understanding of the employees and their tasks through closer interaction and involvement of the human resource manager in the activities carried out by the employees (Malley, 2019).
