Introduction
Color blindness can sometimes become a great concern in the department of security especially when it comes to the investigation and other safety matters that require critical attention. I am aware that criminology is a career that requires a high level of professionalism and attention to detail. Furthermore, security at the airport necessitates prompt actions that ought to be taken at various levels, a situation that requires an individual to be alert and possess competency in all aspects of criminology including color detection. I have to admit that I have mild color-blind deficiency; however, the condition cannot deter me from performing my job. I remain competent enough to undertake the security operations at the airport, inspecting cargo, passengers and the general security of the airplanes that land and take off. In my studies, I majored in Criminal Justice and Homeland Security. Some other courses that I accomplished include Hazard Mitigation, Management in Criminal Justice, Leadership, Ethics and Policing, Legal issues in Homeland Security, and Management in Criminal Justice.
Even with the color blindness deficiency, given the experience and the competency in security matters, I can work diligently, thereby ensuring security at the airport. I can identify some of the primary or common colors including red, green, yellow and others in reality. In other words, I have never had problems differentiating red, green and other colors in reality, other than the color vision test. For example, I see traffic lights, traffic signs, the color of clothes, bags/pieces of luggage, paperwork (if written in different colors), colors in a computer, and screens. Therefore, a condition I have does not interfere with the job-related requirements and I absolutely can perform my job safely. Since I was medically cleared that my condition would not interfere with any task at the job, as an alternative, I can consider wearing eyeglasses.
In the course of my career, I have worked for the corporation development, Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, from February to December 2014. Here I gained several skills and competency in security management. I dealt with the paperwork, passports, computers and screens during the job. The above experiences can enable me to identify security issues associated with the luggage, passengers and the general safety of the aircraft. As a criminologist, candidates ought to have the passion for the law, sharp attention to details, as well as the ability to read people. Additionally, possessing a mental fortitude is important for the above role.
With the proficiencies that I have, the management should note that a simple determination of color vision deficiency cannot essentially preclude an individual from distinguishing all or some of the colors (Levine & Walls, 2013). If the condition is mild, I am still qualified to undertake the job in question. Also, I can apply metal tricks, given my security training, to compensate for the deficiency.
Finally, the majority of people suffering from color-blindness deficiency often find difficulty in identifying specific shades of colors, including red, green, yellow, and some other primary colors, which in my case is not a problem (Levine & Walls, 2013). Additionally, such individuals may not recognize traffic lights and other forms of color. I am therefore happy to confirm that all the above problems do not affect my security practices.
