Introduction
The Climate Science Special report demonstrates that climate is changing and that human activities will cause many more adverse changes (Wuebbles et al., 2018). These climatic changes will impact sea levels, drought propensity, severe precipitation, and more. For instance, without a reduction in emissions, the upsurge in annual average global temperatures relative to pre-industrial times could hit over (9oF) by the end of the 21st century in America alone (Wuebbles et al., 2018). Based on the report, it shows one that American’s concern for Materialism transverses that of the environment. Klibourne and Pickett (2008) indicated that materialistic individuals, companies, or nations were less likely to believe that the world was in danger and they should take the mantle to safeguard the environment. They also stated that materialism would have an apparent negative impact on environmental concern. In America, the pivotal concern is that the collective impacts of individual consumption have negative impacts on the environment. These consequences arise from social processes that are illustrative of market-based societies, and they are described as a “social trap” that is resulting to increase in environmental degradation like filling landfills with non-biodegradable materials (Klibourne and Pickett, 2008).
The Ethical Issues in Green Marketing (Real-Life Examples)
The role of the environment is business is very important. Green marketing analyzes the broader relationship of the organization and its brands to the environment (Rusyani, n.d). The focal emphasis of green marketing is based on establishing relationships, and fulfilling separate stakeholder’s requirements in an environmentally, and socially responsible manner (Rusyani, n.d). The primary stakeholders in green marketing are consumers, investors, directors, legislators, and suppliers. For example, Unilever has introduced the Sustainable Living Plan, which focuses on developing new business practices that reduce the firm’s environmental impact (Skrovan, 2017). The key focus areas are deforestation, climate change, helping sustainable agriculture and domestic farmers. In another example, Mars Inc. recently promised $1 billion to combat climate change as part of the company’s Sustainable in a Generation Plan (Skrovan, 2017). Finally, M&M’s candy product established a “Fans of Wind” energy program that promotes the use of renewable energy sources and inspires customers to acquaint themselves more on wind-powered energy (Skrovan, 2017).
