Literary Elements

Cinder-Elly fairy tale has been modified to present women's roles in society through the modern application of the Cinderella story. Minters present Cinder-Elly as a modern girl in America. The story provides an original fairytale through the challenges of a mistreated young girl and the magic of a fairy. The plot of the story takes place in New York City. This story uses rhyme throughout the book. In that, being the younger sister, she is debarred from the older children. For example, the older sisters disallow Cinder-Elly from going to the ball despite them having three tickets for all of them. Subsequently, the mistreatment of Cinder-Elly by her stepsisters can also be viewed as a form of sibling rivalry. By following the story, the reader can ascertain that the tale depicts the innocence of the children. Cinder-Elly is a classic fairy tale that utilizes an essential theme of sibling or family rivalry and the impeccability of children through the use of rhyme and hilarious illustrations throughout the book.

The Red Riding Hood by Marshall James

This is a classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood which is characterized with excellent pictures. The illustrations are glowingly colored and attractive to young readers. This is a recommendable story that can be used to introduce students to classic fairy tales since it has hilarious characters and it observes the integrity of delightful classic tale. Just like Cinder-Elly, the leading role is an innocent young girl. Other roles includes a grandmother who does not like to be distracted when reading and a charmingly crafty wolf. The humorous narration of the classic fairytale as depicted by Marshall consists of appealing and engaging characters enhanced by the intensive colored of the cartoon images with black ink line depictions. The simple illustrations are enhanced by the element of subtle humorous illustrations such as the empty box of after-dinner mints which is near the loud snuffling wolf.

Snow White in New York by French Fiona.

This tale is characterized by great graphics which are presented in an imaginative form of art. It has the dark themes of death involving a dead wicked stepmother who causes her death as well as the snow white death after being poisoned. The Snow White story is animated by the rhythm and vibrancy of the jazz age set in New York. The breezy and creative text is in line with the style and color of the art presentations thus providing an astounding ingenuity. The setting revolves around Snow White's father getting married again which leads to the development of conflict with the evil stepmother who was jealous of Snow White. The tale had a rising action when the guards who were sent to kill Snow White released her, and she became a singer after meeting the seven jazz-men. The climax of the story is evident when the stepmother continues to be jealous and tries to silence Snow White by poisoning her wine with a cherry although she miraculously survived.

Variation Discussion

All the stories start by presenting their protagonists who are introduced as innocent girls. For instance in Little Red Riding Hood, the author describes the leading character as a sweet young girl wearing a red hood. In Cinder-Elly, the protagonist is presented as a young innocent modern girl who is caught up in sibling rivalry since she is the youngest. On the other hand, Snow White in New York depicts the central character as a poor innocent young girl called Snow White whose mother had died. Therefore, the three tales present a classic narration of girls who have to survive against all the odds since they are not physically dominant.

Subsequently, all the tales have been carefully edited since the original versions are violent. The objective of editing is to make the books more appropriate for children. This is attained by cautiously removing all the words that are not suitable for children. The classic fairytales discussed in this work are presented as tales for little children and not a warning for girls.

To sum up, the classic fairytales discussed in this work seeks to show that young innocent girls can overcome challenges that come their way and build a happy future. Regardless of where we are born, there is hope that with great determination people can win their own life back. Thus, fairytales are used to inspire young people by teaching them valuable lessons.
