Choreography is a series of steps or movements in a dance I music or even a film. The actions are mainly aimed at delivering a particular message to those who watch them. It also serves as an enhancement of the understanding of a message in the song or film in which he dance moves are included. This essay will focus on three videos that have a choreographical meaning and will try to explain the meaning of the song videos.
First, is Sia's song Chandelier which is performed by a young girl who dances in an old dirty mansion. The girl imitates the act of drinking by gulping down imaginary shots when the lyrics state "1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 drink." In addition to that, the dance moves serve to enhance the lyrics in that the song is about party girls not getting hurt. This is achieved by the happy face that the dancer maintains throughout the song. The face only changes on the second stanza and becomes an expressionless face for some time then returns to the happy face again to signify the act of not getting hurt. The vigorous and interpretive dance moves also show the lack of regret despite the desperation that is expressed in the lyrics. This music video is one of the best music choreography of all times.
The second video is Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. The video begins with people emerging from coffin-like structures then moves to them performing before a group of men. They try to impress the men by making their moves. This is essential in enhancing the lyrics of the song which are majored on a girl who needs a particular man's love. The dance has some parts that the dancers show desperation in their dance moves by lying on the ground and expressing it on their faces. The song ends up with the Lady Gaga on a bed with a skeleton by her side on a burnt bed. This move signifies the lousy romance that is highlighted in the song. The dance also includes some weird dances such the beginning when Gaga is seen as an insane lady in a bathtub. It shows that the lady is in need of a particular bad romance. It has won several awards for this.
Finally, there is Pink's Try. The song presents the idea of encouragement in trying situations. The choreography of this song shows pink and her partner in a constant fight like dances. The two however always seem to come back to each other despite their battles. This is essential in enhancing the central theme of the song; trying. The main idea is to encourage the lovers to try hard no matter how hard the situation is. The dance moves highlight the unhealthy and tormented relationship existing between two lovers. This video uses this choreography to express their message.
The choreography is essential in the enhancement of message in a song. It also makes the music video more memorable. It is crucial to consider several factors when choosing the choreography of a song or film such as the structure of the choreography, designs and devices that are to be used in the Choreography (Kreie). This enhances the quality of the performance and increases the relationship between the video and the lyrics in a song or film.
