Introduction
The final module of this photography class was interesting and engaging part of my learning during the coursework. There are parts that I enjoyed the most, I found others to be the easiest to work through while some were the difficulty for me. In this paper, I present my self-evaluation of the experience I had when learning throughout the module.
Parts That I Enjoyed the Most
The sections of the module that I enjoyed the most were the photographic presentation, techniques, and processes. When learning this module it was enjoyable to learn different methods that I can use to market myself. This part was critical since I realized that development and presentation methods are critical areas that a photographer must understand properly. They are helpful in learning how to enter the market and succeed as a professional photographer.
The Easiest Parts to Work Through
The sections that I found easiest to work through in this module entailed those related to independent development. In this part, it was easy for me to learn to experiment and testing out different photographic approaches. Another area that was easy to work through was when planning and completing photographic sessions and shooting. It was also easy for me to review contact sheets, test images, and test prints. I found these parts of the module to be the easiest to work through because I am a fulltime photographer and already completed shooting many projects. The experience in completing former shooting projects helped in performing the independent development parts easily.
The Most Difficult Parts of the Module
The sections of this module that I found to be most challenging included time management, providing constructive feedback as well as staying motivated throughout the photography tasks. It was difficult for me to manage time and deliver tasks within the given time by the instructor. I had a slipped disc that caused lower back pain and this slowed down my pace to work fast as required by the instructor. The fact that I was not able to manage time effectively affected my ability to give constructive feedback on the forum to my peers. The lower back pain caused by the slip disc reduced my motivation to concentrate on tasks. Responding to my peers was also a challenge because I did not have enough time to read their posts and understand the tasks they were performing. Therefore, I did not have enough content to support or refute arguments presented by my peers.
Coping with the Challenges
To cope with the challenges of time management and inability to respond to peers, I took courage and worked throughout the end. The strategy that I used to cope with the challenges was to ask one of my classmates to evaluate tasks after I completed to assess areas that I can improve. Even though I would be among the last to finish assignments, I ensured to get assistance from other students who finished first to get their ideas and compare with mine. The positive comments of my work from friends helped me to work through and completed the challenging parts.
Strengths of My Working Process
During the model, the overall strengths of my working process entailed effectiveness during independent development sessions of shooting and post-processing. My working as a fulltime photographer explains my competence in these tasks during the working process as I have already completed many shooting projects. Photographic presentation, techniques, and processes were also overall strengths of my working process since I am already marketing my photography on the online platform in the website and social media.
Weaknesses of My Working Process
As a photography student, I realized that the overall weaknesses of my working process rested on time management and evaluating the work of my peers for constructive feedback. As explained earlier, the slip disk ailment caused me a lot of pain that affected me during the entire working process. I could not manage time properly and this affected the completion of tasks and not taking the time to read and respond to my peers.
How I Overcame the Difficulties
I overcame the weaknesses of time management and failing to respond to peers by keeping on working even if it will take more time to complete each assignment. My friends were helpful in evaluating my progress upon request and this kept me working until the end.
Time Management
I did not manage my time effectively over the course because of the slip disc ailment that I had when taking the module. When I regain my health, I would manage my time effectively over the course of the module by planning tasks and allocating each the time for completion. I will do this differently by using a schedule to help me in monitoring the pending tasks and due date of completion so that I may finish on time.
What I Have Learned During this Module
I think that I have learned different things from this module. I have gained knowledge on how to shoot and deliver a project in a systematic manner by using new research and development techniques. I have also learned new marketing and presentation ideas such as using the Photobook and website. I have learned writing techniques such as invoking multiple senses when describing my photography. The ability to describe photographs by explaining the experience during that shoot helps a viewer or user of that particular artwork to obtain more than what one can see.
Things I Would Do Differently
If I were to tackle any of the briefs again, the things that I would do differently is managing time effectively, and communicating more with my tutor as well as peers. These changes in my working process would improve the results and deliver my tasks on time. It would be easy for me to express myself by responding to peers and expecting the same from them. Frequent communication with my tutor will give me the confidence in what I am doing in a better way that consulting my friends.
Areas or Skills That I Would Like to Explore Further
To gain more skills in photography, there are various areas that I want to explore in the future. I would like to gain skills in shooting architecture in a more creative manner. I also want to explore how I can improvise my lighting techniques during the shoot and after processing. It will also be important for me to continue with my studies to explore more about photography.
